Some useful information but out-of-date
Like many other reviewers, I bought this book for a trip in May 2012. I also bought Dominica (Other Places Travel Guide) by Anna McCanse. There is a dearth of good up-to-date travel guides to the lesser known islands of the Caribbean. This one contains some useful information but is out-of-date and needs new information. I advise against purchasing this 2nd edition as you can wind up expecting one thing and potentially discovering there have been changes which can be highly inconvenient for you. If you do purchase this book, cross check everything. The hotel listed in this guide that I intend to stay at is no longer "self-catering" during low season; certain tourist offices/stands have come and gone. The tough part of traveling to Dominica is finding reliable, current and detailed information for tourists.3 stars for what useful information it does contain and pretty color pictures.

Great book, only one you'll need.
I had read many reviews of several travel guide books on Dominica and Crask's book here was the best of them all. We used it before the trip and during. Great info, accurate and pretty much up to date. Not a complete listing but the best overall guide for the island you will find to date. Even the owners of the guest house we stayed at in Dominica said it was the best guide book out there.Buy it! You won't be disappointed.

It is also very good on short term housing possibilities
It is the most complete travel book for our interests that we have purchased for a country. It covers the hiking, snorkeling, diving and other activity possibilities in depth. It is also very good on short term housing possibilities, that are not necessarily on other sites. We don't always take the travel books we purchase, after we have read them at home and digested the information. This one we WILL TAKE!

A hikers trail guide
This book is geared towards hiking with all the major trails and waterfalls hikes gone into detail. We haven't been to Domenica yet but it looks like the only book you'll need to get around and enjoy everything the island has to offer.

Very useful
Everyone says this is the best travel guide for Dominica so it's the one we bought. Many sites described in detail so we could make good decisions about where we wanted to go. We used it every day.

Don't go to Dominica without it!
We just spent two weeks on Dominica and used this guide as our bible. It was great for background information before we went, plus helpful for choosing activities once we were there.

An essential part of you luggage
An island like Dominica is not a place that is well documented. You have to do your research in advance to make the most out of a holiday there. And this is where Paul Crask's excellent guide comes in.In fact it's far more than a guide - it's very much like having Paul himself on hand to make your holiday perfect. Sight seeing, eating, sleeping - Paul has all the top tips. There are some very clear maps, and we would never have been able to hike so well without Paul's description of some of the more imaginative off beat trails that we explored. He's so honest and amusing with it.Paul is well known on the island. We actually met the man who is responsible for all the restoration work on the fort in Portsmouth, and he was pleased to see us carrying Paul's guide instead of the local handout at the entrance which is designed to get you lost!Thank you Paul for making our holiday - and thanks for being on hand all day every day.If you are going to Dominica, you need this with your passport, camera and money. Little else matters.
