An Impossible Task Done Well
After coming to the franchise late, I went back and played through all the games that came before the latest, absolutely revelling in the blood and tragedy of Kratos' saga, and began to seek out any and all the surrounding media, beginning with this book. This is everything I expected, but written in a hand better than I presumed for the novelisation of a video game. Though not in the league of lauded fantasy writing, the tale is told well, handling the story more than capably, including the ordeal of pacing and parsing the many battles and puzzles in the game. The most enjoyable aspect about this book are the scenes on Olympus of Athena and Zeus, which give much greater insight to the former and an amusing look at the Skyfather who we become far better acquainted with as the franchise progresses. The narrative of the game and aspects that are most pressing and amusing are woven into a tale that is both familiar enough to not enrage intense fans, while taking enough liberty and interpretation that the story has some freshness, as well as pacing the events more appropriately for reading, apposed to playing. However, the Temple of Pandora is somewhat laborious, although this is somewhat to be expected, and at least the swirling blades in the Underworld don't reflect my hours of furious repetition and enraged frustration. If I were to ask more it would be to have had the action a little more visceral and immediate in its realisation and some greater insight into the inner-workings of the mid of the Ghost of Sparta, though I do understand Kratos is more of a singularly driven being not prone to philosophy and introspection.A solid effort and I look forward to the second book, saddened that there isn't a book of the third game of the side adventures.

Amazing to read! Perfect gift for a fan!
Bought this and the second one for my partner for Christmas as he is a massive god of war fan, he was too eager to wait for it so I gave it to him early. He reads them all the time. The only books he reads! Hopefully a number 3 comes out so he can have get the trilogy.

Ties in very nicely with the game
Graet novel. Ties in very nicely with the game. Contains many elements and ideas not present in the game.

Great for GOW fans
I am a big fan of Greek mythology and the GOW series. I have played all the GOW titles and when I discovered there was a book out based on the franchise I was intrigued. After reading other positive reviews on the book I decided to purchase it, and after reading it I can say I wasn't disappointed. The book captures the epic story telling of the game and stays very true to the first GOW story line. Battles are described in excellent gory detail and Kratos feels as brutal and ruthless as he does in the game.I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the GOW series. Hopefully further books will be brought out to include the sequels. Worth every penny.
