Impressively quiet mics. Ended up with two for stereo recording.
Initially bought one of these for recording acoustic guitar. Was immediately struck by how quiet it was compared to my other "entry level" mics; no self-noise appearing until you crank the gain up past 90%, even then it's still quiet. Sound is great, and depending on the distance from your source you can get everything from intimate & direct through to big and roomy sounds - all captured faithfully. It also works well for recording loud guitar amps. I've tested it side-by-side with a condenser mic (CM25 MkIII) and there's no discernible difference in tone. The pad switch seems handy, but haven't had to use it yet.Was curious about stereo recording, so bought a set of matched RØDE M5s, but those were comparatively pretty noisy & tinny, so returned them and bought a second P170. Even though they're not 'matched' there's no obvious difference in output or tone (bought 5 months apart) - and they work fantastically on a stereo bar in standard stereo configurations. They're very slim, quite long, and feel quite sturdy and high-quality. The mount provided fits well, but you could probably knock it out accidentally with little force.Overall, very impressed with these mics.

Solid consistent and clear performance
The frequency range is quite wide so can be used as a general low frequency instrument mic. It has good internal gain and only needs 6-9db preamp to bring it to parity for a kick. Its pickup range is less than 1m which means it's not picking up everything else going on around. The sound is clear and undistorted with very little noise - perfect! The sound is pretty true though the EQ rolls off at around 1000khz (as you'd expect). For most live applications this is a good choice for kicks or bass amps. It's ok for recording demo tracks.

Very pleased for acoustic guitar recording
These microphones are very well-suited to recording guitars, and I would expect many other acoustic instruments. They have a -20dB switch, which I assume is for micing drums(??).Don't get these for vocals - they are not meant for that. You'll also need to power them, so make sure you have phantom power. Not sure yet how rugged they are, so can't comment on that aspect.

Great Microphone
The frequency response on this microphone is excellent for guitar/drums and vocals. I am impressed by the overall qualities this microphone provides. The clearness and clarity are highly desired. I recommend.

No need to pay more - superb mics
Buy them: they work wonderfully.Well constructed, solid mics that wont break the bank, but perform superbly in a live environment. I play regularly, and have heard dozens of different drum mics, these are up there with the big boys at a fraction of the price in terms of both sound and construction. For studio, maybe these would stand out as cheaper mics, I couldn't say, but for live work these are great.Only downside is that the clips seems fragile. I had one snap on me the first time I tried to use it, but the vendor offered me a % refund which more than covered a replacement clip from the professional line, so all good. Just be careful, that's all.Honestly, these have more than exceeded my expectations. Very happy.

Great microphone
I bought this mic to use it as an overhead microphone to record gongs. It picks up the sound wonderfully and its sound is very clear! In fact it’s so sensitive I tried it near the gong and it kept on clipping even with the gain turned to almost “0” so I wouldn’t recommend it for that purpouse but it is definetely a perfect mic for recording other sound healing instruments.

Bright, crisp otherwise versatile
Seem to be pointed at the acoustic and/or drum overhead usage but . . . . are far more versatile than that.Bowed instruments, cello, viola, violin and even double bass works great. Even vocals!Or as a stereo pair (mine aren't matched, can't tell) super results for anything. The speedy crispness is easily tamed if required in final production. Quite universal really.
