Worked perfectly
Was struggling with a stubborn seized engine bolt with rounded corners and none of my imperial of metric spanners or sockets would fit properly. After tapping the extractor onto the bolt head with a soft hammer, was immediately able to undo the bolt using a socket drive.Awesome tool and good value.

An absolute "Must Have" for every home mechanic.
I've worked on bikes and cars for over 30 years as a hobby.During that time I've bought many "wonder tools" that claim to be able to extracted rusty, shredded nuts/bolts, but this is the first one that I have bought that:a) Worked out of the box.b) Gave me the confidence that it will work next time. The reason I'm posting isn't to praise this product, because many have already done so, but to share my experience of using the tool, in the hope that it helps others faced with the potentially expensive job of removing a bad bolt. So, here's my thoughts about the prep work required prior to putting pressure on to release the bolt.1. Use hand tools not power tools. Patience is the key here.2. Apply WD40 penetrating fluid to all accessible ends of the bolt , let it sink in, then apply again (repeat every 10 mins for a couple of hours at least). If you can leave it overnight, even better. You are looking for a penetration into the bolt thread, not a soaked drip off the bolt. The time spent doing this is going to be a lot less than if you have to get a mechanic to finish the job.3. The gripper relies upon a rotary action, so hammering it into position will likely damage the tool and reduce grip, however a tap to ensure it is seated square may help.4. Stating the obvious here, but the Irwin socket needs to be wound onto the nut/bolt as you would loosen.5. Go slowly, keeping pressure along the line into the bolt, until you can see the Irwin socket has fully engaged. It grips very quickly but needs to sit squarely with the nut/bolt head. I only needed to apply a twist of the extension bar by hand to get it to engage.6, Wind it on until you can't see a gap between the socket and the surface to which the bolt is applied (or the bolt/nut flange). I used a 3/8 inch socket wrench with extension bar for this stage as I didn't want to stress the connection. Note that if you are using an extension bar you must keep the bar square to avoid a poor grip.7. If there is any wobble on the extractor it hasn't got a good contact, so try seating it again. That's the prep work, how you choose to loosen the bolt is your choice.I opted for a 3/8 extension bar in to a 3/8/ to 1/2 inch convertor, then used a 1/2 inch extendable ratchet to obtain the MINIMUM turning force required to release the bolt.Too little force and the bolt will not turn. Too much force and you'll strip the head again.Hope this helps.

Incredibly useful , not sure if quite as good as other sets
An incredibly useful tool for any mechanic . I purchased this set solely for the 8mm which was not available in my usual brand (cheaper brand !).For those who haven’t used them, you basically tap them onto the head of a a bolt. The sharp tapered lining inside grips the bolt head and aids with extraction of a rounded bolt. Very fool proof and easy to use . Bonus is you can also use a spanner of wrench on the tool depending on the space absolve .This isn’t the cheapest set bjt is worth the money if you are in a fix. I can’t count the number of times this has saved meThe only negative is that I am not sure it’s as good as other sets - as odd as thjs sounds , the metal is almost too hard and this sometimes prevents the tool from getting a good solid seat - my other sets feel a little softer and always adapt with ease and have still lasted years. Hopefully these will do the same with time

Great Product - does the job.
I used this to successfully remove an old rusted nut head on the exhaust manifold. Needs some effort but the cutting ratchet head was excellent. Great value for money and quick delivery.

Probably the best tool there is.
Every damaged nut or bolt is a unique challenge as they differ in degree of damage, material they are made from, how badly seized they are, how accessible they are etc so it pays to have an arsenal of tools to hand because no one single tool is always going to be the best or most appropriate in ALL circumstances, but this little set of sockets is the closest I've ever found to being the one tool that makes you want to throw all the rest away.Other reviewers have commented that it is sometimes difficult to find a socket which will fit the particular nut or bolt in question, but remember a 10mm nut which has been rounded is no longer a 10mm nut. If you can't get one of these sockets onto a nut which you have already destroyed then you've nothing to lose by just destroying it a little more until a socket WILL fit. Grind a little more metal off it by trying again with the mole grips, or by filing, or using a Dremel with a grinding bit (I've done this where access was restricted, works great), whatever. You are still going to have to work to do the job, even the best tool won't just do it for you while you stand back and watch. The sockets actually get a great grip when the nut or bolt head has been prepared, to the extent that it can be a challenge getting them out again afterwards. These are tough tools. I have belted these on with a 2lb hammer and used them with an impact driver, but despite all the abuse I've given them they still look like they're fresh from the factory. I also like the fact that as well as being useable with a 3/8 drive they also have hex flats so they can be used with spanners, handy when access is an issue. Not absolutely sure why they are sold in a half empty box and you have to buy the rest as an "expansion kit", better if they just sold the box with 10 sockets in and be done with it.

It worked!
It worked! This undid a bolt with a low profile head that was so tight a new 16mm socket just rounded the corners. It took a lot of torque to turn.

Excellent bit of kit
This socket set saved me having to take my car to a garage for repair. Someone had seriously over tightened the sump plug and it would not shift. After exhausting all my options and the bolt head rounding off, I purchased this set. Hammered the socket on and it did the job, such a relief when it cracked loose. Definitely recommend these for stubborn or rounded bolts.

Disappointed, wouldn't bite!
Didn't work for my bolt! Had I bought a cheap set I'd have blamed myself for buying cheap but I'm sure they couldn't do any worse. The edges that should bite seemed to damage easily and didn't grip as expected. Could have been me but confident it wasn't!

Very high quality that gets the job done.
I bought this smaller set based on the excellent performance of a larger set that I bought years ago for lug nuts. Both this and the larger set worked to my complete satisfaction. The large set said not to use with an impact- use hand tools only. The smaller set package says that an impact may be used. BUT based on the instructions and performance of the large set, I only used hand tools with these. Outstanding job performance!

Outstanding Product
This extractor set worked like a charm. I had a nut on my Toro Timecutter mower that secured my deflector shield. I had to replace the shield, and the nut was on so tight that it quickly got stripped as I tried to remove it. I saw suggestions on YouTube to try the Irwin Extractor Set, so I ordered the set here on Amazon. I received the set late yesterday evening. This morning, after breakfast, I went out and put the set to use. I was amazed at how easily the nut came off. The 9/16 piece really bit into the stripped nut, and it came right off with very little effort. HIGHLY recommend.

Worked like a dream, thoroughly recommend
This was my last chance to remove a rounded oil drain plug on my Suzuki SX4 before considering drilling out the plug. It look less than one minute to remove the plug using this tool, with no damage to the tool. I'm pleased to have this as a backup for future bolt removing problems.

Excelente producto
