I like how this was packaged and delivered. Usually my yarn orders fall apart in transport but this one. The colours are staple blue's so the blanket can be placed in any room at any season. It lives up to the usual Red Heart standard quality. The accessories and booklet were helpful to have everything I needed to get the job done.Some improvements could be adding a bow or something to provide this as a gift. Now I have to go buy a separate gift box when I give it to my nephew.

It’s nice to not have to calculate how much yarn in which colors you need for a given project. This kit takes away that chore. It’s also cool that this project is designed to complete in a weekend if you focus on it. The large hook and 4 strands held together results in very thick fabric, and if I were to do it over again, I would use an even larger hook to create a looser draped fabric, as I like my blankets more drapey. The instructions are simple and the colors of yarn are well coordinated. A fun weekend project and a nice gift.

This is a great kit and it comes with everything you will need. I would not say it is beginner friendly as I was super confused at first. But I feel like I finally got somewhere and I’m happy I got this!

This set comes with everything one needs to begin crocheting. I am completely new to crocheting. I have no experience at all. Having said that, I'm not sure the videos are for true beginners. I feel like I really missed some important things, as I'm a little loss. So it has everything to start you off with, but you'll have to check for online videos to start you off.

Although this is a fairly easy to make afghan, I’m not sure that beginner is quite the right level to mark on this.The videos that came with the kit really were not to the quality that I feel a true beginner would need to be able to crochet this afghan. The videos were taken at a little too far of a distance from the sample for you to see exactly where the teacher was crocheting in on some parts and the video goes extremely fast. I think if you’ve done one or two other small crochet projects and are comfortable holding a crochet hook and making the motions you can probably follow along, but if you’ve never touched a crochet hook, this might not be the correct beginner level for you.So let’s get into the blanket details.The blanket uses 4 strands of yarn being crocheted together simultaneously. These four strands working together can sometimes be a bit of a pain because if they’re not feeding out of your basket at the same rate you can get some snarls and some other frustrations. Because of the large gauge of the crochet hook, the project does go together fairly fast, I would say about 15 or 16 hours if you’ve crocheted before a few times before.Red heart yarn always has a fairly good quality and is not overly drying to your hands, which I appreciate. The blanket itself is very heavy when completed, mine weighed in at about 6 pounds.When following the directions, I did have a fair amount of yarn remaining, as you can see in my picture, so I would say that there is enough to do a ninth set of the two stripes, possibly even a tenth if you need a long blanket.

I have been using Red Heart yarn for over a decade now, and this box of yarn meets my expectations of consistency in terms of quality and reliability. The coordinating colors of yarn match well with each other, and my 5 year old partial skeins of Turqua match the shades of the ones in this kit.The included instructions for the blanket are clear and easy to follow, just as every Red Heart pattern that I've used previously has been. It's hard for me to say if the pattern is good for beginners, since crochet came easily to me and I quickly leveled up in the skill about a decade ago.The included hook is plastic and little rough, but it's the size needed for crocheting with multiple strands of yarn at one time.This kit doesn't offer much of a discount for buying yarn in bulk- the price for individual or a three pack of skeins in this amount plus the tools, roughly equals the value of this complete kit.
