So many options 5, 5B, 5 plus
I own two of these little fun computer, plus the 5 and 5 plus.Djc Orange piThis is a great little SBC that thinks it is a little desktop. Run Ubuntu or Debian Bookworm. The Arch distro did not seem to work. Used a Sandisk Ultra 32gb or a 64gb micro SD card. The HDMI display is solid. The network interface came right up on the 5B. The 5 and 5 plus m.2 Wi-Fi cards need a simple configuration edit and they work just as well. All of the Wi-Fi cables are delicate as are the tiny sma connector. Think gentle. I used some plastic standoffs as mounts for the two antennae. Speed 1gb on the Ethernet and 780 mbps on the Wi-Fi neat. Used a USB keyboard mouse. Used a DVOZVO case with an upgrade Geeekpi pwm fan with a bit of code and you have fun little machine. Easily connected to my LAN printer and NAS.Next up an I2C OLED status display. Fun to use for SDR and general surfing and office work. Load up Libreoffice, Librecad and Freecad and we are off making things. There lot of data from the supplier and on the web. Think of this as a RPI with smaller set of GPIO pins.I would recommend the SBC Linux board.

powerfull and cost effective for Internet server
Small and energy efficient yet powerfull and fast SoC, perfect for internet server, especially 16GB RAM version. Build in PCIe port allows for SSD disc usage, which additionally speedup th whole solution. I'm very glad from this purchase.

Runs as advertised
In a word void of Pi's this comes to fill the void and offer some performance for your troubles. Ran Armbian stock, tested Plex and Home Assistant on it. Not using the manufacturer's OS variant and plex not having any support for it was still able to do a few 1080p streams. In this config also booted off of a 2282 nvme and boot times are significantly improved. That is where one of my annoyances would lie. The missing nvme standoff is a pain as the spacing is not standard. Managed to find a washer to use for it's mounting and was happy the M.2 spec is not peculiar to the exact angle of the nvme. Also get it a beefy heatsink or active cooling, the Pi4 core heatsinks won't suffice. Also at this point in time, in this region, it's hard to find a good case for it, amazon has only 2.

orange pi 5 16gb
My thought on this sbc is it has great performance for it value but it dose suck that you can''t hook up an external usb ssd or a hard drive to it without struggle you have to search all over the internet just to find you have to do some command line codes just to get them to work but they don't work by them selves you have to still have the sd card in it to even get them to read how is it that it can read a usb thumb drive so easy i had no problems with any thumb drives i'm just so confused other then that I've had a really good experience when it come down to some of the operating systems that you can put on it Armbian is probable hand down the best operating system when it come to a regular desktop environment but still has some bugs but not bad ones i can find android operating systems can be a little iffy to put on the orange pi 5 bc of the way they have them put on there website you have to use there tool to flash it to the sd card in which i don't mined but you have a chance that when you flash it on it can corrupt your sd card but Ik it a new sbc i hope they give us better support when it comes to external ssd and hard drives

Was good until it didnt work.
Board worked good, however just recently whenever I plug it in the screen flickers and is a bright green and purple. all signs of GPU being messed up. Tried reflashing os, changing power cords and outlets, hdmi cables, everything. But nope, the gpu is borked after just a month or so.I would love to love to love this product and the company, but this is my first bought board with them and unfortunately its not leaving a good taste in my mouth. I hope that their customer service is good or else I will not be buying again. I will edit later to reflect on the customer service that I get

very good dev board, a bit difficult to use
the orange pi 5 dev board is very powerful, very easy to configure for boot on nvme. I found more difficult to configure it for remote desktop, and the price is slightly to high.Memory wise, there is plenty of it, 16 GB is largely enough to do anything

Great little mini server with very low power requirements
Raspberry Pi 4s have been impossible to get lately, so I decided to look at other options for my Home Lab. I'm glad I did, this kicks the Pi4's butt for CPU performance, and you can get them with more memory - I got a 16GB model. It has a M2 slot, and I put a Samsung 512GB NVMe drive in and it crushes the Pi for disk IO, especially for random writes. There are a couple of minor down sides - it doesn't have WIFI, and for some reason they didn't include M2 screws so I had to buy those separately. While it has GPIO pins, they're a different pinout than the Raspberry Pi so you can't use RPi Hats easily. All that said, if you're looking for something to run as a small file server or for Home Assistant, this is ideal - it has more CPU cores than an RPi and you can get models with more RAM than the Pi.Update: I've had it over a year and I'm still super happy with it. I'm using it as a server, not with GPIO, so the GPIO pinout not being identical to rPi hasn't been an issue.
