Spiceberry Home Ceramic Hot Chili Bean Pot/Dutch Oven, 3 Quart

I've used this four times now- three times for baked beans and once for chili. It works very well. The beans are creamy and evenly cooked without them being runny like those made in a slow-cooker. I just load everything in a bake for 4-5 hours. I do have to add about half a cup of water at about the 4 hour mark because steam escapes through the hole in the lid. I'm not sure the hole is necessary; the lid isn't an airtight fit. This is normal for clay. I use a baked bean recipe that takes a one pound bag of dried beans and it fit with plenty of room for stirring and boiling. It hasn't come close to boiling over and the high lip would stop boil-over anyway. Last time I took beans to a picnic, they stayed hot for two hours (wrapped in a bath towel). The handles are big for easy moving. The glaze is easy to clean with a wide mouth that makes it easy to get to the bottom for cleaning. It's an attractive, slightly sparkly, chocolate brown. I have not tried using it on the stove yet. I liked this enough that I just now got the 1 qt. covered casserole that matches. I would certainly get this again.

This is a really nice bean pot but I think the bottom could be just a bit thicker. I made baked beans with it and there are spots on the inside glazing where the beans rested. I had plenty of moisture and the oven was only at 350°. Also, I soaked the beans for more than 24 hours first before mixing and baking. The spots won't come off. I don't think it will affect future use but it makes me think that maybe the bottom of the pot gets too hot.

I purchased this pot for use in "All Season" solar cooker. First one arrived broken and was immediately replaced with better packing. This will be a workhorse item of cookware.Looking forward to some great meals out of this pot.

we ordered this pot for function and durability. It arrived,the first time, shattered! It was quickly replaced and is a beautiful functional pot. It is durable to a point. It is not indestructible.

It's a good chilli pot. I cooked Indian dishes in it as well. Cooks well and looks good too. Worth buying!!
