Effective and reliable USB charging
I bought this Masterplug USB charger to charge my iPad and Samsung Galaxy W phone at home and whilst travelling in hotels etc. It is compact and avoids carrying two chargers and provides additional versatility in that you have two USB ports plus a 13amp socket too. On taking it out of the packaging one immediately gets an impression of a very well made and attractive product. There has been a lot of concern about third party chargers/adaptors recently, but Masterplug is very well trusted name and this one is compliant with BS 5733 and EN 61643-11. There is a blue LED charge indicator which remains lit when mains power is switched on to the unit whether a USB item is being charged or not. Additionally, there is a white LED to signify that surge protection is active. Whilst I agree with some other reviewers that these LEDs can be a bit bright, I find them an asset as they catch my eye and I'm much less likely to leave the charger in a hotel room etc. This charger is not much wider than a normal 13 amp plug so it shouldn't obscure adjacent sockets or switches like some power adaptors do. It seems to work very well with both my iPad 3 and Samsung Galaxy W phone plus a host of other items - in my opinion it's hard to fault. It should however be remembered this is a USB charger and it effectively mimics the power output of a USB port on your PC which is less powerful than an iPad charger for example, so, it goes without saying charging times will be longer in some cases than using the dedicated charger.A black version of this product is also available. In summary, this USB charger looks and feels like a good quality product from a trusted UK brand and performs well - recommended.

Ideal if you have a Sonos Device & iPod etc
A very useful little surge protector with the added bonus of 2 USB Outlets built in. Even more handy if you have a Sonos wireless music system. If like me you wanted to play an iPod or any other external USB powered device connected to the aux in port of your Sonos, this is ideal. You can plug the Sonos power supply into the surge protected outlet, and run a USB cable along with its power cable up to the player. This will only take up 1 plug socket outlet and whenever you turn your Sonos player on from the mains switch to listen to it, you'll also be able to charge your iPod etc at the same time! One tiny issue to make you aware of, the lights are quite bright and I can't find a way to turn them off. Mine sits behind the sofa so it doesn't bother me, but if you had this plugged in next to your bed you'd see the lights.A good price and a handy little units earned it the full 5 stars :-)

Really great product, just two small niggles...
I only have a double plug by my side of the bed, so I wanted to be able to charge my iPhone and keep a couple of other things plugged in too. With the additional bonus to surge protection, this seemed an ideal product, and in many ways, it is.Two small niggles:1) The two circular displays on the top left and top right of the front face glow very brightly in blue. This creates quite a bit of unwanted light when I am sleeping. Nothing some black tape won't fix, but I am not convinced these two lights are needed.2) The two USB ports must charge devices at the same voltage. If I plug in my iPhone 5 or charge my iPad 2, it works fine. Charging the both at the same time creates a conflict and causes one of the two devices to complain that it is not plugged into an approved charger, and stop charging. As I say, just minor niggles, all in all a great product.

Used daily for all sorts of devices. A bonus for overseas travel
This item is used daily in a precious kitchen socket where the main pass-through on the front is essential. On this years Germany holiday (no tea making in room) I popped the Masterplug into a European-adapter which made the single hotel room socket more useful. We could, for example, use a mains travel kettle and keep our USB items on charge or add another mains USB charger on the front. In a hotel room, I valued the lights on the front. Can it cope with lots of devices? Well as many of us have discovered, not all USB devices are equal. My Tesco hudl 2 tablet takes a lot of power to charge it so I expect to plug in just one of those. I did ok with a couple of big phones or a phone and an e-cig. Results are going to vary with USB but my rule of thumb is avoid cheap chargers. This is not one of those and a couple of years on, it's clearly a good one.

Nice flexible plug charger
I've now bought several of these, because my kids seem to end up using them for their travels. It's a good sized plug, not too big, not too small. Very neat in that in effect they don't waste a 13 amp socket - they take a socket and provide a socket. The 2.1 amps USB charging rate is okay (not sure if this is total across the two USB sockets, or per socket). And it has voltage spike protection too. Well made, by a good manufacturer. 5*

Low power outputs
The Masterplug unit is compact and does what it says it will. On the downside, USB comes in two power outputs and the ones on this unit are of the lower power kind. Some bigger items don't like this and will refuse to charge. I have got around this by putting a charger into the front "mains through" socket which is a very useful feature. In some ways it kind of defeats the point of having the Masterplug unit there but it does mean that you can use the other two USB outputs to charge other less power fussy devices at the same time and in this gadget filled world, having multiple charging options is a necessity. In all fairness to the manufacturer, the power output is clearly stated but many people are not aware what their device needs. During the charging you have the peace of mind that your devices are surge protected.

Well-designed
This is a really well-designed little item, one piece (unlike so many USB chargers) and good build quality, offering two USB sockets without taking up a plug socket. The only negative is the two super-bright lights on the front, which are not conducive to sleep. To get around this, I use this item in a room that needs an 'ovaltine light' - so I can wander in and out in the dark without putting the 'big light' on. It's perfect for that!
