Postcard Set 24pcs Christmas Dwarves Vintage Illustrations by Jenny Nystrom

This beautiful set of Christmas postcards is just what I needed to stave off my Brexit blues. They show the Swedish Christmas gnome (Jultomte) at large in the forest and in his cabin workshop. He and his fellow gnomes rope in foxes and bears to help with the Christmas parcels, they feed their livestock, grind their morning coffee and commune with nature and children. The images, by Swedish illustrator Jenny Nystrom, are indefinably European. Far less cutesy than Anglo-American vintage illustrations, they represent not only the hidden sanctuary of the forest, but also its dark, secret side. Some of the gnome faces are as benign as our Father Christmas, others are downright creepy, with an otherworldly air and sharp, animal teeth. I'll be using this wonderful set as Christmas cards. The quality of the cards is great - good firm cardstock, sharply defined images and lovely subtle colours. The seller packs these up in good strong envelopes so they arrive in perfect condition - no ratty edges.

True postcard size. Clear reproductions of original illustrations. Great to create the impression of a cosy childhood Christmas as a montage or bunting. Very good value.The only disappointment was the delayed delivery time of 6+ weeks as they did not arrive until Christmas Eve.

Delivery was good , but unfortunately some of the images were blurred .

I think of them as Gnomes, rather than Dwarves, and they can bring you good luck, though you may need to placate them (they CAN be grumpy!). Since these Christmas gnomes stories originated in Scandinavian cultures, there are a couple cards with non-English greetings, such as "God Jul".All of the cards in this set are winter scenes, though not necessarily Christmas. One of my favorites is of a gnome holding the New Year's Baby in a paper cone.The cards are of nice, nothing extraordinary, cardstock. Each is a little larger than average, about 4 ¼" by 5 ½". I wish that the address/message side didn't have wasted space taken up by the big "POST CARD" written across the top, but it doesn't take up any more room than the postcard caption otherwise often found.Colors are bright and I just think these postcards are fun to send. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.Happy Reader

love this type of vintage postcards. Bought the gnome series last year.

I live the oddness of these vintage post cards. I sent them to my friends who would appreciate how off the wall they seem for a modern viewer. A few were a bit meh design wise, but the majority were fun or cute or both. Also lots of cards for the price.

These postcards arrived earlier than expected. I ordered from this company before and my poster came early also - always a PLUS! These are on a durable card stock and the printing is right on. The graphics are so very cool that I'm afraid to mail without an envelope for fear it won't make it to its destination. Thumbs Up!!!
