The first three Star Wars films reworked as creator George Lucas had intended. Using state of the art technology, Lucas and his team cleaned up the prints, updated the special effects and added new footage to coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the original film's release. The stories tell of the adventures of a band of fearless rebels who try to take on the might of the awesome Empire, led by the evil Emperor and Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader. Throughout their quest, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2D2 and C3PO meet terrifying foes, new allies and bizarre creatures. In 'Star Wars' on discovering a secret hidden inside a droid that his family have bought, young farm hand, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) becomes involved in a battle between the forces of light and the evil Empire. Along the way he meets up with a Knight of an ancient order (Alec Guinness), a roguish space pilot (Harrison Ford), a beautiful princess (Carrie Fisher) and an evil tyrant. In this remastered version of George Lucas' space epic, the special effects have been enhanced using modern technology and the famous missing scene between Han Solo and Jabba the Hutt (and other smaller scenes) have been added. In 'The Empire Strikes Back' after the destruction of the Death Star, the rebels led by Luke (Hamill) and Leia (Fisher) are on the run from the vengeful Empire. Holed up on an inhospitable ice planet the Rebels are soon discovered and must flee across the galaxy. Luke decides to visit an old Jedi Knight while Han and Leia become involved in a game of cat and mouse with Vader and a host of bounty hunters led by Boba Fett. Whilst 'Return of the Jedi' is final part in the remastered trilogy. With Han (Ford) still being held captive by Jabba, his friends Luke, Leia, Lando, Chewbacca, R2 D2 and C3 PO plan a rescue mission. After that, the intrepid group must make another assault on the new, more powerful Death Star and Luke must face his destiny in the guise of Darth Vader and the Emperor.

Okay for the price, bit dated now.

Classic original Trilogy
Razor sharp picture. The original and best Star Wars movies. The makers should have stuck with the original three Star Wars movies. Unbeatable.

Entertaining!
The film sets are so dated now, but it's still very entertaining. And of course, they are very 'telling' .. Yoda there teaching the law of one. I'd never have noticed that all those years ago.

Cannot believe I waited so long before buying these films.
These have got to be my 2nd favorite movies, (next to Harry Potter) as they fill all the criteria for what you want to be watching late in the evening with a mug of coffee in one hand, and a flapjack in the other. Although chronologically these are not the first films, in Episode IV, A New Hope, we are introduced to all the characters, including Luke, Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2D2, C3PO, Han Solo, Princess Leia and Darth Vader. We watch Luke, Han, Leia, Obi-Wan, the two Droids and a Wookie called Chewbacca battle in the rebellion against the Galactic Empire which resides in the dreaded Death Star. With Sub-plots such as Han's disturbing friendship with Jabba, the biggest gangster in the Galaxy, and Luke's mysterious family tree, you will find yourself, as I did, really needing to go to the toilet but not wanting to as OH MY GOD I did NOT see that coming! After watching Episode IV, I could not wait for anymore than 24 hours before sitting myself down and watching Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back. We find that Luke has joined the rest of the rebels and taken residence on the Ice Planet of Hoth. However, after escaping a bloodthirsty Yeti, Luke finds that he must be fully trained as a Light-saber-wielding Jedi with Yoda to continue fulfilling his destiny. But while being taught in the ways of the Force, Luke needs to leave Yoda's strange planet to rush to the aid of his friends, who have conveniently been double-crossed by Han's friend Lando Calrissian. But when Luke arrives, he finds only the evil Darth Vader. After the battle which wages while Han, Leia try desperately to get away from the Stormtrooper's clutches, Darth Vader tells Luke something which leaves you completely dumbstruck, hardly able to hear or see the last 10 minutes of movie due to the fact that your mind is racing, and you have barely regained consciousness when the credits are rolling, leaving you to what feels like the cliffhanger of the century. So you instantly remove the Empire Strikes Back DVD, and insert Episode VI, Return of the Jedi. In this final Installment, (until Episode VII comes out) we meet the Emperor Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious. We learn that a second Death Star is under construction, after Luke, R2D2, C3PO Leia and Chewbacca undergo great dangers such as a Bloodthirsty Rancor, a Sarlacc Pit and the vile Jabba the Hutt to save Han, who has been frozen in a block of ice. After you watch about 5 people and strange creatures get eaten, you are left wondering; why the hell didn't Luke just get his Light-Saber out so much sooner, cut down anyone in his path and be on his way? Answer: Because Plot. We meet the Ewoks, strange teddy bears who are more badass than all the Jedi put together, and then watch as Luke engages in a final Battle that is his alone to fight. These films are the best I've seen in a long time, and I'm already thinking about buying the box set of the prequel Trilogy, (Episode I, the Phantom Menace, Episode II, Attack of the Clones and Episode III, Revenge of the Sith.) Buy these movies and be left pondering the all-important question; Light-sabers, or Harry Potter Wands?

Worth buying yet another format?
Well, as an 80's child it goes without saying the original Star Wars trioligy rates highly in my all time fave films...Which is why i purchased this new edition as i was itching to find out if they had further improved on the previous dvd release. I feel like im in a minority when i say i actualy prefer the special editions of these films, most of the new cgi fits in seemlessly apart from the infamous Han Solo treading on Jabas tail debarkle..First the good news..The picture is crisp and clear, especialy facial close ups and the detail you can now see inside the falcon etc is truly amazing considering these films are 3 decades old!The sound is pin sharp and if you are lucky enough to listen through a home theater system every gun shot and light saber swoosh will sound like its in the room with you...If you need to foward or rewind during the movies you get a handy scene by scene marker which pops up so you can jump to the exact place you want..Now the bad stuff..The actual case cover is shockingly bad, very plain and cheap looking, i would have liked to see a metalic case or a black moulded case in the shape of Darths iconic mask.Although the picture quality is amazing you have to remember just how old they are so will never look truly faultless.. If you already own the last dvd release of the trioligy i wouldnt rush out to buy the blu ray copies just yet as the old dvd versions do still look superb compared to other movies of a similar age..So thats about it really..The bottom line is, if you dont own these movies on dvd.. I would run, not walk to your local store and get the blu ray versions! If you do already have the dvd copies, and there cant be anyone in the galaxy who hasnt! I would maybe put this release on your xmas prez wish list or rent them from your video store and who knows.. In another 20 years time i may be writting a review about the 3d hologram re-issue!
