Rubber Coated Metal Practice Mute Silencer for Volin Viola Black

I bought this to use as a practice mute whilst learning to play the cello, in the hope that I don’t annoy the neighbours too much. By unscrewing it in the middle you can loosen it up a bit to put it on the bridge, and then tighten it up so it doesn’t fall off. It noticeably mutes the sound so it doesn’t carry as far, so I’m sure it makes a considerable difference. The rubberlike coating means it won’t scratch the instrument if it does happen to get knocked off. It’s a bit more expensive than the ones that are just rubber, but it’s good quality and more effective due to the metal core so it’s definitely worth it. It arrived very quickly too.

Bought for viola. Does the job well. Somewhat chunky and (in my opinion) a bit overweight maybe for what it need to do.

Seems to fit well and is a reasonable price, however left black marks on my bridge the first time I used it which I can now not get rid of. I'll try wiping it down to get any residue etc. that could be causing this off of the mute itself, but I'm a bit concerned about using it now.

arrived in time and is a good product generally but within 2 uses the screw/bolt that holds the two sides together have both fallen off and I have to be very careful when using it in case I move too far forward or back and the bolt falls out and into my instrument. If you are wanting more prolonged use then I'd suggest buying a more expensive product as this broke too soon. Tried repairing myself but was unable to.

Quitens the sound so much that I can play in the house without annoying my neighbours. Perfect for practicing!

Incredible! Cuts out so much of the sound without really affecting the tone of my instrument. My housemates love this...

Its design precludes it muting all of the strings.
