new life for an old laptop
It arrived on schedule and was well packaged, up and running in no time and performing as advertised. Note that it's incompatible with most modern hardware, but it's just the thing for replacing the disk in an early 2000's era laptop that requires this kind of interface.

Great product and amazingly quiet!
I am extremely satisfied with this product. I bought it to replace the hard drive in an old Dell Inspiron 1300 I have. The result was amazing, as it gave my ancient laptop a new lease of life! It is fast, quiet and very efficient. My old laptop works like new, I was so pleased with the result. For those of you that need a bit of assistance in proceeding with the installation, ensure, first of all that you back up your existing hard drive. This is what I did: I first inserted my new hard drive into a caddy enclosure and connected the enclosure to my old laptop. With the Acronis application, I moved the contents of the old hard drive onto the new hard drive. Then I took the old hard drive out and inserted into the laptop the new hard drive that had in it the contents of the old hard drive! Simple! The whole operation took me less than 20 minutes and the old laptop is now new and absolutely loving it!Highly recommended, do not hesitate to buy it!

Nofrills reliable and easy to install
I bought this hard drive to upgrade an old Dell D400 laptop and I am running Windows XP and Linux on two partitions. The drive makes less noise than the previous one I had and fit in the bay with minimal effort. So far I've had no problems and has been working fine.

Works Fine, easy to fit
My hard drive failed in my 4 year old Samsung Q35. I did some research to determine that my drive is the older PATA/IDE type, rather than the more modern SATA type. (They have different connections, so not compatible)Bought this and its fitting took a couple of minutes. I then applied my Recovery CD, as provided by Samsung and this took me through the formatting & partition options. You may want to investigate separating your drive into more than 1 partition. I did this in the hope of isolating future failures to system or data areas. This drive was delivered promptly, installed easily and works fine! Please note that my Q35 (bought in 2006) has a PATA/IDE hard drive, I understand that later models have SATA drives. So check before ordering. The PATA drives have a long double row of pins.

No nonsense hard drive for old laptop
I have an old Gateway laptop that got a virus on it which was removed by anti-virus software, but in the process some Windows registry keys were deleted and of course Windows XP wouldnt then boot up. There was no simple fix so the laptop was left redundant.Recently decided that perhaps changing the hard drive would solve it, and as these are now cheap and the laptop only had a 40GB one anyway, it was a good thing to do. Removing the old drive had already been done, it was just a case of fixing the new drive into the casing where the old one was. Once secured with the 4 screws it was slotted back into the laptop and secured with outer case screws.Initially I was getting pxe error messages when the computer tried to boot, which suggested the drive wasnt properly seated into the internal connector. On further investigation however it was because the DVD drive wasnt the first in the boot sequence list in the Bios. Once this was changed and the recovery DVD that came with the laptop placed in the DVD drive, the system recovery sequence started. Once finished it was then a case of reinstalling drivers that I obtained from the Gateway website for the system hardware and my old laptop was back to life, now with a much bigger hard drive. In summary a good replacement hard drive for any old compatible laptop.

Samsung 160gb laptop ide hard drive.
Bought this to replace a dying 80gb oem drive in an old HP laptop. No problems with installation and it runs win xp pro pretty good. My only reservations are that it is noisy when seeking, and drive does make a lot of clicking noises in general. This is a bit worrying as it can be an indicator of possible drive failure in the near future but I will wait and see. I will update if problems develop.

Samsung continue to live up to their good reputation
This is a quiet and fast drive for use in older laptop computers which only support the EIDE (and not SATA) interface.I installed it into my ~6 year-old Vaio when the original Hitachi drive started to fail. This new one is twice the capacity and noticeably faster. The only issue I had was that Windows XP refused to use the UDMA mode of this drive, and no matter how many registry hacks and workarounds I tried it was stuck firmly in PIO mode. I ended up installing a special ALi driver (Google for "vaio ali chipset udma") which resolved the issue in a round-about way.

Perfetto
