Build Your Own Galaxy: The Big Unofficial Builder’s Book

Great choice for any star wars or lego fan
My son loves this book. We have a lot of legos and have purchased other lego books. This is one of the best. It not only shows photos of the creations but also includes directions. Many of the designs are smaller scaled so they require less blocks and are easy for his younger sister. It has also provided inspiration for my son to design and build his own starships. This book is a great alternative to buying more lego sets since you can use the blocks you already own to build many different designs. We have even bought this book as gift to his friends. I highly recommend this book for any star wars or lego fan!

Actually a fantastic book!!
This book is HUGE and awesome! Each build is detailed step by step just like a legit Lego instruction booklet. Color photos and each build includes a parts inventory list. Close up HD detailed photos makes following instructions and making your own customized builds easy! 400 pages, soft binding. 100% satisfied with this book! especially at less than $5.00 on prime!!

Pretty neat book!
First things first, some quick description of me. I am editor to a LEGO fan magazine and have a pretty average collection of parts for a LEGO fan (which means large to the average reader). Now, about the book....I got the book to review and after some shipping problems, I got it after the holiday season. But this would be a good gift for a person wanting to learn how to build simple and not so simple models of all types. The models are a nice assortment of shows and styles, with models from the movies and shows Space Patrol - the Fantastic Adventures of the Spaceship Orion (a German television show), Star Trek, Space:1999, Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Battlestar Galactica (the classic series) and a custom mecha. There are 25 models, with spacecraft from Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica and the other shows being represented by custom built figures not too unlike bobbleheads. The most important part for me was the beginning of the book, which had some building tips. In the instructions, there are also hints, so reading through without building can teach builders some new tricks. Each model's instructions is clear (although there is one error in the walker I spotted while building it - most readers will figure it out when they see it) and each model has a parts list both in visual and list form, which is best if you need to order a part. The models vary from beginner (most of the figures) to advanced (the Imperial Shuttle). And while I wished the Eagle was included, it's better to have gotten the 25 total models in the book than just maybe two or three crafts. I built the AT-AT first, and it's a really nice solid little build. The figures vary in quality - Darth Vader and Boba Fett are the best figures to build. Being a Star Trek fan, I plan to build the Klingon. So is this a good book? Yes, it is. For the price point, it has a lot. I would recommend it to the Sci-fi geek who builds.

Disappointing
Bought this book for my kids, who like to build spaceships and vehicles. This book has a few, but there's a preponderance of Star Wars figures (not minfigs) and vehicles for which models already are commercially available. In addition, there are photos in the book of models that would be really cool to build (such as the Eagles from "Space: 1999") but no instructions, which makes it feel like more of a gyp. But it's really all of the character models - there's way too many and they really aren't mentioned in the description, so there's no way to know. It's too bad, since it's clearly a well-designed book by true Lego enthusiasts.

It was still wrapped in plastic wrap, although it was open on the long side of the book. NEW! As described.

Very Little Ship Building Instructions
The majority of the book focuses on building figures and not ships. The few ships in it are cool builds but small. There is one picture of a space rover next to a Space 1999 Eagle. Do they give you the build instructions for the Eagle, no, they give them for the buggy.
