Great kit but read review
My daughter (11) is really enjoying this fashion designer kit. She loves that the models are the same size as her barbie dolls. She however wants to make “real” clothes for her dolls and not just design pretty unusable clothes. So she is using a snap kit and trying to sew as well. Problems with the kit include the fact that the tape is not very good. We thought it would be sewing tape and would stick like fabric tape does. Instead it doesn’t stay on for more than a few minutes. Even for just displaying a design this is unacceptable. Then the fabric needs hemmed to stay nice. This isn’t a problem if you are just designing unusable clothes and then starting over. But to reuse the fabric multiple times or to make real doll clothes it is. But that is a problem because we are using the kit differently than it is meant. But one buyers should be aware of. The patterns are meant to be put together by pressing into the models backs which leaves room for fasteners (snaps in our case) but not room for seams on all sides. Then they don’t have the design tucks that would be needed to fit the dolls- they just tuck it into the back.So- beautiful material, great models, good directions, but don’t use these directions if you want to make real barbie clothes. Find other patterns to start your fashion designer on her way. If instead you want a simple easy craft kit centered around fashion design but have no desire to make real doll clothes use this kit as is. Either way it is a great kit. But don’t use the tape - get your own.

Fashionista 8 yr old niece loves it!
This is JUST what my niece wanted to get her fashion diva self going. She is loving using the little mannequins and loves the variety of fabrics/options. I highly recommend this as a gift for a young designer in the making.

Tricky at first, but also fun
My teenager doesn't really like sewing but does like doing fashion designing with scraps of fabric with her dolls, so I got this for her to be able to explore different styles and costume making. There are 4 sets of dress instructions and pictures of more ideas that aren't included as specific instructions. She decided to do the blue dress with the instructions as a guide. It was a bit tricky. It would have been a bit easier if the skirt piece had been cut a bit larger than the directions said to cut it, as it didn't have much fabric to tuck into the back of the model. It was also disappointing that the fashion doesn't continue to the back of the model. My daughter decided to add a cape/jacket to the outfit to make the back part look better.I then decided to do the pink dress, making my design slightly different by combining a few of the picture suggestions. I measured the dress fabric by wrapping it around the model and then cutting a little extra to have enough to tuck into the back. Double-sided sticky tape helps hold the embellishments on, but it can be a bit stubborn to work with. The box is adorable and makes a great backdrop to display the fashions. When putting the models together, one of them had plastic "crumbs" in with it, so make sure those get thrown away when you open them up.There was a lot more fabric than I thought there would be. With no sewing required, if cut carefully, there should be several sizes of fabric to make various parts of the outfits, and can be reused as one outfit is taken apart and another is made.I can see how younger kids could need a lot of help with this. I'd suggest pre-cutting pieces of fabric to useable sizes (short skirt, long skirt/dress, strips for the tops, etc) so that isn't a frustration for them. As for the sticky tape, it's probably as strong as you'd want to still have the outfit pieces still be usable, but it might require a bit of adult help to get the right amount to make it work. This box packs a lot inside it for the budding fashionista, with reusable fun too. It has a bit of frustration starting out, but is also a lot of fun, especially to do together.

Appropriate for older than advertised, but still pretty cool!
I've been waiting for my niece to visit so that we could do this together. She's 10. We were impressed upon opening the kit to find some really modern, beautiful fabrics. Some of these type of kids come with calicos and plaids that may appeal to an older generation but not kids or fashionistas, lol. These fabrics are pretty and cool to mix and match. We followed the directions, but there's a lot of space for creativity as well. I had just as much fun as she did and we had a mini competition for our family to judge blindly. She won :) I'll return with photos as she took most of them- I was too focused on a great formal dress!

Very fun activity!
The dress making kit is great. This entertained me for a long time. There are 5 mannequin models. You need to put them together. Each one has a gripper panel in the back. You stick the fabric into the gripper panel to make the dress. You can also stick trim into the gripper panel. You can also tape things with 2-sided tape. There is plenty of fabric in case you make a cutting mistake. There are enough mannequins for kids to play together, or for mother daughter bonding time. The fabrics and trim are great and the resulting outfits are pretty cute. This is a wonderful creative activity for people who like this sort of thing.
