Simple is Beautiful1
A funny story to illustrate:I initiated a new subscription to a cable service, and paid a small extra fee for landline service, back when I still believed that had any degree of usefulness.Well, the landline didn't work - I called for a service technician, who replaced some components, still nothing. The next technician played with attenuator values, with the same result. Then cme multiple replacements of cable modems....At the end of about a half dozen service calls, they finally sent out a wizend old pro - probably pushing 60 - who recalled the good old days when technicians knew something about electricity, and he brought a device with him similar to this one. Sending a signal through one end of the cable, he spend all of 30 seconds identifiying the correct wire to receive, and within a minute the problem was sorted. If your house is like many in the US today, where multiple Cable lines have been installed and abandoned, you may have half a dozen "dead" lines hanging off your wall, and connecting the right one to the right wall receptacle in your house may be a game of multiplication costing countless hours. This device is cheap, simple and will reliably orient you to the correct connection every time.

Coulda been 5 stars
This product is awesome. It makes running cables so much easier than without it. I would have given it 5 stars but the first one I received didn't work. Shout out to the company though for getting me a replacement the very next day.

CHEAP JUNK!
Threads on the top end ( the one that has to removed to change batteries) are mismatched and hard to get to thread up. The battery will get stuck in the tube and not allow you to tap or pull it out.. you have to drill a small hole in the bottom end ( where the Neg and spring are ) to PUSH OUT the battery. Tone is not loud at all,, can't be heard though walls or around corners.. I had a FLUKE toner for years.. but it was 50.00!! but you could change battery and was LOUD! and the case was Precision machined not STAMPED POTS METAL! Total junk even if it 17.00,, one time use. throw a way!!

RG6 Cable locator/tester
Bought the cheapest version of this tool I could find, seeing it is going to be used infrequently. This item is rough on the finish, threads are a bit coarse and there is little fine finish on the active ends (signal generator and signal detector). It works, tested a random cable I had in the bin.Recommend you NOT store it with battery inside. Comes with carbon/zinc AAA battery and with such thin aluminum construction, any leak will corrode the unit.Recommend you toss a double ended barrel connector in the bin in order to feed/trace cables. It does not come with one to change gender of the sending unit..

The Jonard toner is a far better choice
I've been using coax toners for over 20 yrs and have to buy new ones from time to time. This unit is by far the cheapest feeling one I've ever used. I put a Jonard in my cart and saw this one so I added it as well for a back up. It will STAY in the drawer as a backup. The threads are not good and when you screw the head back on it has a very rough feel. For $3 more you can buy the Jonard which is vastly superior.

Functional coax tester / identifier
It does what it says on the tin. If you are familiar with the Labgear coax cable tester then this is a variation on the theme.+ves: Does the same job and the battery compartment is fractionally wider (compared with Labgear) making sourcing replacement AAA batteries that fit a non issue.-ves: A Chinese manufactured clone (not always a bad thing) definitely built to a cost which I felt was not fully reflected in the asking price, the metal barrel was thin and the thread machining left a little to be desired, the separate components, barrel, end caps and sounder went together okay but felt like it could easily cross thread or simply wear with a little use. Perhaps I got a bad example, there is certainly a lot of love for this product in the amazon.com reviews.

If you want a tool that will do the job quickly with no frills , this is it.
Saw a Rogers service tech use one , decided if it’s good enough for him , why not .It’s small pocket sized ( downside …..easy to misplace )and quick to use .Pretty darn cheap too.

Not worth it.
I purchased this to sort out the mess of cables in my rental as I have no idea which cables go to which room. I was going to label them.....ocd was going to get the best of me. Opened the item and followed all instructions and the toner never made a sound. I used a brand new short cable and it would work on that even.Through much more trial and error, I did discover that when the toner (audible portion) was defective so Amazon processed a refund.Pro:It was cheaper than the other ones listed on Amazon.Con:It was cheaper than the other ones on Amazon;the item was defective;it feels cheap; andI did not get to label the cables.
