Great build quality, easy installation, awful battery-draining app that doesn't easily (or ever?) show you the footage you need
This camera seems pretty nice. It's well built, solid, and wasn't difficult to install. (The Wi-Fi connection option did not work, which was a bummer, but the ethernet one did, so that was fine.) I wish the angle of the view was a bit wider, as I had wanted to cover more ground, but that's fine. The big issue for me was the app. (I am on Android, potentially the iPhone app is better). Just like all IP cameras, they use an app to notify you about alarms, allow you to view footage, and modify settings related to the camera and so forth. But, unlike other IP cameras (specifically the YI cameras, at least), this app is -- frankly -- garbage. It uses a UI that has to be 5-6 years out of date (which doesn't really impact, but is noticeable), is a bit wonky to figure out where to go to do what I wanted to do (to update certain settings), and is a HUGE battery drain. I am legitimately shocked how much it impacted my battery life, even with notifications turned off completely. But the biggest issue with the app is how hard it is to view footage, and consistency between recordings and results. The pictures sent to email and the recorded video in alarm alerts (the 5-6 second clips) are not the wide-angle video that you see when you pull up the live feed. I don't know why. The alarm alert videos also seem to be sped up weirdly, just a bit. It's odd. The most confusing thing though, is the inability to find anything in the recordings. For example, I was outside with my kid playing in full view of the camera for about 25-30 minutes, and it provided me with 3 different alarm alerts. That was fine, though they were weirdly sped up and all that. But when I went through the rolling recordings (presented in a variety of lengths, without rhyme or reason), I literally cannot find this footage at all. I use the time stamp in the alarm alerts, and carefully go through every single one of the timestamped rolling records, and cannot find it at all. And again, we were outside in full view of it (almost dead center) for 25-30 minutes. It doesn't help that unlike other cameras, the rolling history is not presented visually but rather with a list of timestamped text entries. Why isn't there any preview image of the video? Just very surprising. But again, most importantly, I literally could not find 25-30 minutes of activity directly in front of the camera, despite receiving alarm alerts. And, unlike the terrific YI camera app (which is not without fault but is just my comparison for now), I can't click on anything in the alert to take me to a longer surrounding clip. For those reasons, I am sending it back. It has all the hardware things I wanted, the potential to be terrific, and the ability to do what I wanted, but I simply cannot find any way to use it the way I needed to, to find the footage of the activity it is supposed to be recording (and alerting me about), let alone the issues with the severe battery drain of the app (with notifications turned off). Unfortunate, because it has potential.

Pretty good for the price.
I bought a couple of these cameras to add to my existing indoor Edimax cameras. The video on these is far superior to the Edimax cameras. The night vision range is good and the images are clear and stable without any light adjustments or noise. Setup was a snap and it’s more secure than other WiFi cameras that go into setup mode when they lose their WiFi connection. There are a few flaws I should point out.1. The antennas prevent you from pointing the camera parallel to what it’s mounted too. This restricts its possible positions for mounting. For example, I can’t point the camera at a 90 degree angle.2. Unlike my Edimax cameras, the HiKam can’t store captured media (video, audio, picture) directly to a NAS drive. You have to install software on a computer that connects to the cameras and stores captured images to your NAS. Thus, you won’t get the images triggered by the the Human Detection feature of the camera on your NAS (unless the software you use has this feature too). But then you still have to have the software running continuously for NAS storage.3. Human Detection feature produces a lot of false alarms. Mine gets triggered every time a vehicle drives by. HiKam support says it’s because it’s confusing a stationary object in the picture as a human.Another thing that’s kind of wonky are the 3 cords that come out for Ethernet, reset button, and power. Status LEDs are on the cords and you have to do something with the Ethernet and reset cord so they don’t just dangle. I’m sure it’s designed this way to make it waterproof. The nice thing is that you can use the Ethernet connector outdoors if you want because it comes with pieces to make your Ethernet connection weatherproof.I also wish the image could be rotated at 45 degree intervals. This would help with the mounting restrictions caused by the antennas. One thing you can count on is the HiKam customer service. They are very responsive and willing to provide help. They don’t ask for warranty info when you contact them.Despite these few shortcomings, it probably the best outdoor WiFi camera I’ve seen for the price.UPDATEI now own three of these cameras. The latest version has great improvements in the mounting hardware. Now you only need to loosen/tighten a single screw with a star wrench (included) to position the camera in nearly any angle, even at 90 degrees. The memory card is easily replaceable but no longer included. But the price is lower so you can use the savings to get your own memory. Hikam is always working to improve their software and make the human detection feature work without false positives. It’s still not perfect but much better than before. Firmware upgrades have always been easy to do through their app.

Fantastic Outdoor WiFi Camera for your home
I purchased this camera some 5-6 months back and was little skeptical about buying IP cameras. After lot of search, I ended up buying this one. To tell you honestly, the performance of camera so far has made me feel that i have taken the best decision to buy this product instead of all its competitors.1. Camera build quality is very sturdy, not like other plastic made camera. This one is having metallic build and gives you strong feeling to bear extreme environment. I am from India, where outdoor temperatures touches easily 44degreee/Celcius, but till now this camera has been standing tall in all heat and rainy conditions here.2. Installation of the camera was a cake walk. I being from Engineering field, doesnt have to apply my engineering mind. It was plug and play. Really i mean it.3. Camera quality in very good and gives your recording premium feeling4. Having SD slot was an added advantage as it helps to retrieve the recording easily.5. It also has a feature to push/send alarms to user whenever any detection within camera view is traced. Human detection mode, helps in filtering out false alarms. It works really nice.6. Getting regular firmware updates from Dev team, recently got upgraded to new features where specific zone can be defined in camera view, and then any human/motion detection within that zone will be alerted to user on smartphone. I must say i am fan of this feature, using it from last 4-5 days. This really helps me keeping an eye only on my entry gate (zone1) and near my car(zone2). Any human activity within that zone, and Bingo!!! i get an alert. If you are looking for a camera within this budget with overall awesome features and regular firmware updates, then this is the best bet in the market currently.
