Lubricate this lock before using it!
As I ride a relatively attractive but low value bike, I'm happy to go with a more 'budget' lock to give me a little bit of peace of mind in the event I'm leaving it somewhere. I would like to say I'm also not commuting and don't live in a big city. This lock is substantial, and appears very well made. I went with the medium U size as it fits nicely within the frame of a road bike. The most important thing I wanted to mention is the fact the lock is quite 'sticky' when new, and the vast majority of the negative and 1 star reviews here all list the fact the lock seizes and can't be opened. As it's a disc lock, and a key retainer when unlocked, It does feel a bit scratchy, but appears to be completely dry from the factory. I sprayed white grease heavily into the keyhole, and also into the holes where the locking parts engage with the shackle, before working it back and forth repeatedly, using BOTH keys. Now the lock operates like butter, and I've got complete confidence in the long term durability of the lock.In short, when you receive this lock, grease it!

Solid good size lock
This lock is good and sturdy. It is very stiff to use. I thought over time it may be easier to undo, but I find it very hard. Have to use key to unlock it even before use which is fiddly. Can't take key out unless it is in locked position.

Solid Budget Lock (a bit rough round the edges but great)
16mm shackles like this are really only vulnerable from angle grinder attacks, as is "cryptonite's" best which is 18mm. However this is considerably cheaper. Any U lock can be cut by an angle grinder, the difference between them is the length of time to cut it. If you are parking at work or home all day i would buy 2 of these and leave them in place all year round. The 2 of them combined is still less than half the price of the best Cryptonite, but they would take longer to cut. For ultimate security you could add the chain lock recommended by lockpickinglawyer. Double and triple locking is recommended for areas of high bike theft. As for the lock itself its sturdy but not as well finished as premium locks. The mechanism is fiddly. There are only 2 keys. Still, its a bargain at that price and the medium one its not too heavy. I prefer this as a carry lock compared to my cryptonite evo and ongard brut because its smaller and lighter. My recommendation is that you spray the inside with ACF50 not WD40. This will weather protect it and lubricate it for 6 months (wd40 is not a lubricant). This is essential if you want to leave it out all year round.

would NOT recommend
This lock is very sturdy but that's about as far as any positives go. It is extremely difficult to open, it always takes me about 5 minutes pulling at it like crazy. It seems to be stuck at all times. Super annoying. I'm not exaggerating. In addition, the key sometimes doesn't go in the keyhole properly so you have to wiggle around until eventually the keyhole aligns and the key can actually be turned. So in total it will take 10 minutes to lock your bike. I sometimes consider walking now because I don't want all this lock hassle.

Solid lock. Easy to fit.
I can't believe what good value this lock is. It seems really well made and unlike some other reviewers, I found it easy to fit and remove once I realised that you turn it clockwise to unlock and anticlockwise to lock. The key stays in the lock when it is in its separate parts and is needed to lock the mechanism before it can be removed. It's a heavy lock and I found the mounting clamp didn't keep the lock out of the way. Because it is the smaller version, I just store it in my bag on the rear rack. That also keeps it clean. Being a gold rated lock, it certainly looks and feels as though it would deter all but the most determined thief.

Definitely worth the money
The lock didn't work smoothly at first, but chain oil fixed it. I live in a very bad neighbourhood where bikes are notoriously stolen. I lost already 3 bikes. I've been using this lock for half a year and I still have the bike so it's not as bad as some people write. Definitely worth the money. I was wondering which size would be better Medium or Large, so I ordered both. Now I can easly say that medium is good enough, large is too big and too heavy.

It does the job
Got this as a quick, cheap replacement for an Abus lock that the locking mechanism had seized. The main u section is pretty beefy. The lock section feels lower quality and the locking mechanism does not inspire much confidence as does the mount. In fairness it is sold secure gold (and it's only protecting a cheap bike).

Great Value Bike Lock
I used this product for my bike and it works really well, knowing it has gold rated security ensures I have a piece of mind that my bike is gonna be secure and it is easy and light to carry around in my backpack and get it out when I need it! The only thing I didn't like is the included the lock rack which you could attach the lock to instead of carrying it around! I feel as if the bracket for the lock isn't gonna hold the lock probably as it can come off pretty easily which does concern me, for next time I would prefer to have a better lock mount bracket but apart from the product it is an amazing product, good value for money and for overall security! Im pleased with the product :)
