Awesome saw!
This is truly an excellent saw for the price! Paul Sellers was right...If you don't know how to sharpen you can use it immediately after purchasing it just wipe off the factory applied protective cover to prevent it from rusting and it's working fine. However it is worth sharpening it's not that hard teeth are quite big one pass with the file on the gullet and the cutting will be even smoother and the finish will be nicer. Paul sellers has you tube videos how to sharpen cross/rip.The saw cuts amazingly as a crosscut with the default tooth arrangement. The saw blade is medium thick the saw does not bend the handle is very comfortable for me! The only minor downside is the pins instead of screws but at this price there's nothing to complain about... I've had them for over 2 years and every now and then I just need to hit the pins and the saw sits perfectly in the holder again. Just wipe with cloth+oil after each use and you get a lifetime tool.I bought a second one and sharpened it as RIP. At this price maybe it's even worth buying two as a spare:) I know what I'm saying because I've used more expensive saws - see in the photo that I have one Lie Nielsen and I think that we really don't lose much and it simply doesn't make sense to pay 5 times as much.100% recommendation!

Sharp, accurate, shiny, and makes me happy.
I am a fan of hand tools. A number of years ago I was looking for a tenon saw and had using Paul Sellers’ excellent web site for a guide, I found a few old, but quality saws on a popular auction site. These were old and not the sharpest but did a good job for a few years and I learned to make good straight cuts. The advantage of these over modern hardpoints is that they can be sharpened (if you have the tools -and currently I don’t sadly).More recently I made the mistake of buying a hardpoint Irwin Saw and my learned skills went out the window. Nothing I do can make it cut straight. Whilst it is sharp (ish), it’s also flimsy and just horrible to use. So I use it for quick rough cuts where it doesn’t matter (although to my brain it always matters).More recently I was browsing though a Paul Sellers Blog and he mentioned this particular saw. In my earlier searches for a tenon saw, I am fairly certain it wasn’t available on Amazon (or anywhere) so I was surprised to find it here. And the price is excellent. So I bought one, and it is almost perfect. It is sharp, it cuts straight (best cuts I have ever made) because its brass back is rigid, and it looks great. If you want a traditional hand saw to make things out of wood, which should last for a long long time with good care then invest in one of these. It won’t make you a perfect saw-er itself but it will give you every chance of success. Sounds a bit stupid but using this saw makes me happy. This is the smaller of two Spear and Jackson make and I’m planning to get the bigger one soon.Earlier I suggested it is almost perfect. The reason for the almost is my large hands. They make the handle of the saw slightly less comfortable that my older, blunter, saw. Bear this in mind if you have big hands, but it’s no reason not to buy it and love it.Thanks Spear and Jackson for making such a great product, and thanks Paul Sellers for the recommendation and the amazing work you do and thanks to Amazon for stocking it and delivering so quickly.

S&J panel saw (22in 10 ppi)
Overall a good looking, well made saw with the plate being made of a good spring steel and the handle is made of beech so is quite durable. The rivets in the handle will need tightening just tap them with a hammer and good to go! Amazing saw for the price, could be a lifetime saw if you look after it!

Nice quality
Nice quality feel. Good weight, cuts well, handle may be a tad large for small hands but that’s just the way saws are. Time will tell on how long it stays sharp. 👍

Nice but…
It’s a nice quality saw and does a reasonable job at cutting. If I’m honest it’s nice to have a more traditional style saw but I wouldn’t say it cuts any better than a cheap site saw from a local DIY store. I know this can be re sharpened (which is a good thing) but out the box i was expecting more. Again if looked after it could be a life time item. But I didn’t expect that i would have to sharpen it to the standard I was expecting out of the box.
