Dirty: A Dive Bar Novel

Patience is not my strongest point, but when Kylie announced this particular series, I had it in bucket loads. I floved the Stage Dive boys and when the series came to an end I was left wanting more. Thankful Kylie decided to bring to life Dive Bar and I’m very grateful she did !I have found my new favourite place, a safe haven of fun and frolics, friendship and relationships galore. Welcome to the Dive Bar !Lydia is one kick ass girl, from finding out your fiancé bats for the other team (seeing it on film) to climbing a 6ft fence in heels and a wedding dress, getting stuck in a window (something I’d probably do) and entering a house uninvited. She had all the sass and the attitude you wanted, but what I liked is that I could relate to her with her insecurities and body image issues. They aren’t the best but it was great to see that not every heroine in a book has to be picture perfect from the start ! I wanted to know more and Lydia had me hooked.The first time we meet Vaughan he is in his birthday suit and there in all his glory, and Lydia, like me or any sane woman sat in a bath tub, couldn’t keep her eyes off him!Vaughan couldn’t keep his eyes off of Lydia’s ample bust and here we found common ground. I particularly enjoyed the banter between the two, the flirting without flirting. We find that he is the guitarist from the band that toured with Stage Dive and have now gone their separate ways loving Vaughan broke and one of the reasons he had returned home.The secondary characters are equally brilliant in their own right and each equally an essential part to the series I’m looking forward to learning more about each one.Nell is part owner of the Dive Bar and Vaughans sister, she sets him to work. Lydia can’t keep her eyes off him. “Your Brother is hot, like smokin’ hot, honestly it’s kind of impossible to have a vagina and not look”The dynamics between all the characters is fascinating and I over how Lydia and Vaughans relationship progressed from friends to lovers “I’m going to kiss you know” “Oh okay !”Lydia fell and Vaughan fell, but before you knew it the twists and turns had you waiting with baited breath to see if they made it or not.A bonus was the unexpected appearance of Mal ! Yay“Ruh Roh”We have reached the end. Kylie Scott I salute you for making me feel at home in the Dive Bar ! I am so hooked I plan on staying awhile, floved this book Lydia and Vaughan stole my heart.As for Nell, Eric, Pat, Andre, Joe and Rose, I’ll see you again and I’m expecting great things.Welcome to the Dive Bar, make yourself at home xxBig beautiful 4.5 stars

Lydia is a runaway bride. On the day of her wedding she learns the truth about her fiancé and decides that the only sane course of action is to flee, and flee quickly. Vaughan is a musician who is down on his luck. On returning home, he’s shocked to find Lydia in his bathtub. Both individuals have their issues, but it doesn’t stop either of them from recognising the chemistry between them.I loved this book. There’s such a fun, flirty feeling to the way in which it’s written. I especially love the way the Lydia’s mind works and the way in which the characters interact with one another. There’s a comment made very early on about Lydia’s upbringing but it’s clear that Vaughan has no such issue with it. In fact, he’s probably worse than she is when it comes to just saying what he’s thinking. Providing what he’s thinking is inappropriate and probably shouldn’t be said in aloud. Personally, I think it’s their frank conversations that help to make their self-professed ‘crazy’ relationship more believable. Some romance novels move too quickly but with these two, you’re right there with them, cheering them on, even though you know as well as they do that there’s an expiration date to whatever it is that’s going on between them. I think it’s Lydia’s feistiness that draws me to her. She’s sweet, if a little crazy but we understand why and her strange outbursts only endear her more to us, and Vaughan.While I love the characters, the plot and the way in which it’s written, I’m not so keen on the ending. I understand that we’ll probably see more of the main characters in subsequent novels, but the ending still seemed to come too quickly for me. I’m not sure if that’s because I simply wanted more or if it’s because there were still a few things I wanted to know. Whatever it is, it’s not something that has soured my opinion of Dirty; I loved it and am already looking forward to diving back into the Dive Bar series with Twist (book 2).Side-note: I possibly should have read the Stage Dive series first but I don’t think it hurts any to have started with the spin-off. I don’t think I’ve lost out on anything by reading this book first, but I reserve the right to change my mind once I’ve caught up with the other series, which I definitely plan to do in the near future. I absolutely loved this writer and am so glad that I gave this book a chance.Quote: To trespass or to be discovered? Not a hard call to make. Call me Goldilocks. I was going in. If I got eaten by a bear, then so be it. Il libro si legge bene, perché l’autrice scrive bene, ma ciò che troverete sarà il niente, perché del niente parla questo libro. Andrete avanti con la lettura è quello che costantemente vi chiederete è:” quindi? Ci sarà un colpo di scena o no?”. La risposta che vi darete a fine libro sarà:” no”. Perché il libro è prevedibile dall’inizio alla fine. La storia è scontata e già vista rivista e consumata. Questo libro non è né una scoperta ne una delusione. Diciamo che mi ha lasciata indifferente. Lo rileggerei? No! Lo consiglierei? Solo a chi non ha voglia di perdersi in drammi, in storie profonde, in trame complicate, in personaggi psicologicamente costruiti e approfonditi. Lo sconsiglierei? Si se da un libro volete di più e non una semplice lista della spesa, che seppur scritta bene sempre lista della spesa rimane.

Trovare libri che emozionano non è sempre facile.Ci imbattiamo in trame interessanti ma poi leggendoli vengono infrante le nostre aspettative e rimaniamo deluse.Per fortuna non in questo caso, dove ci troviamo di fronte ad un romanzo divertente con una grande dose di erotismo e dove le emozioni non mancheranno.Questa assurda storia (davvero è una storia al quanto assurda), ci viene raccontata da Lydia.Tutto inizia quando nel giorno più importante della sua vita, scopre che il suo futuro marito ha una relazione con il testimone di nozze e che la loro relazione lampo (lampo perché solo dopo quattro mesi decidono di sposarsi) era tutta una messa in scena, una farsa, solo un mezzo per nascondere a tutti quanti la relazione con un'altro uomo.Dopo la sconvolgente scoperta decide di scappare e di rifugiarsi nel primo luogo disponibile, una casa oltre la staccionata, che la fortuna vuole abbia una finestra aperta dove intrufolarsi.Quella casa però, è di proprietà di una rock star di una bellezza mozzafiato Vaughan, ritornato a casa dopo che la sua band si è sciolta.Non ha un soldo e nemmeno la minima idea di cosa fare del suo futuro.Già da questi presupposti potete comprendere che assurda coppia.Ma vogliamo parlare del loro primo incontro?Lei nella vasca in abito da sposa in crisi emotiva e lui completamente nudo.Da qui ho capito che sarebbe stata una lettura davvero divertente, e difatti l'autrice non si è smentita.Una giornata cominciata nel peggiore dei modi che si conclude con la nascita di un'amicizia tra due ragazzi al verde, senza lavoro, senza la minima idea di cosa fare della propria vita e forse anche senza un posto dove stare.Su una però sono ben chiari: si prenderanno dei giorni per sistemare un po' il caos della loro esistenza e poi ognuno andrà per la propria strada.Alla storia principale si intrecceranno altre storie che poi ci faranno compagnia nei prossimi capitoli.Ironia e sensualità mi hanno accompagnato in questa splendida lettura.Ho amato di come le scene piccanti sono state descritte senza esagerazioni ne termini volgari, ma raccontate talmente bene da farmi immedesimare e a suscitarmi la pelle d'oca.Forse il finale avrei preferito un bel colpo di scena, una conclusione esilarante come lo svolgimento di tutta la trama.

I understand what Kylie Scott was attempting to achieve here. People don't always achieve their dreams of fame and fortune and there is a flip side to the Stage Dive type of success. For me it didn't gel into a classic romance and I didn't much care if Vaughan and Lydia reached their happy ever after. Also after such a fantastic series as stage dive (apart from Ben and Lizzie) I imagine it's difficult to create a new magic. To me there was no magic and Vaughn simply wasn't a nice guy. Imagine this reader, Lydia has just discovered her husband to be is gay and she escapes into Vaughans home. Through a series of supposedly funny episodes Lydia is left dressed in her bridal corset and asks Vaughan if he could provide a shirt to cover up. Vaughn apologizes and explains his luggage has been lost. Later it's revealed that he did have shirts and he just did not want her to cover her gorgeous rack. So reader if this scenario delights you then this is the book for you. If like me you like your heroes sexy, wicked, delicious and appreciative of female anatomy and most of all considerate this is not the book for you.

La storia in sé è divertente, spumeggiante e romantica.Bella l'idea di come i protagonisti si incontrano.Pessime invece alcune inesattezze che chi ha letto i libri precedenti, scopre subito. Non so se siano colpa dell'autrice (ma non credo che una persona che scrive 3 libri su un gruppo musicale poi al primo di una serie connessa allo stesso sbagli adattribuire i nomi alle band) o di un errore di traduzione ma sono sviste pesanti riguardo ai libri precedenti.Un'altra cosa che non mi ha convinta è il finale che ho trovato particolarmente frettoloso e che non mi ha lasciato soddisfatta. Ci potevano decisamente essere altri mezzi per concludere.lo consiglio? no se avete letto i precedenti.

Quando in un contemporary ci sono sposine che scappano davanti all'altare, la mia curiosità viene immediatamente catturata poiché, solitamente, la storia che c'è dietro a quel gesto è a dir poco spassosa e fuori di testa. Non mi sbagliavo!Lydia è una furia per come affronta il matrimonio sfumato, la sua rabbia non ha confini verso, non solo l'ex fidanzato, ma sopratutto per le angherie che subisce da parte dei genitori di lui. Si butta a capofitto in situazioni al di fuori dal suo solito modul operandi e tutto questo suscita l'iralità e stupore di chi le è vicino.C'è da specificare che Lydia non è la solita protagonista super bellona, affascinante e con misure da modella di Victoria Secrets, ma è una donna dalla corporatura normale capace però di essere inconsapevolmente seducente.E' una ragazza dalla battuta sempre pronta, è sveglia, ha un'incredibile passione per il cibo e considera dignitoso e divertente il lavoro di cameriera rispetto a quello noioso d'immobiliare che svolgeva prima di rompere il matrimonio.Il suo spirito leggero, sensibile e allegro si scontra con quello ombroso di Vaughan: il suo salvatore dalla fuga della casa accanto a quella dove si doveva svolgere il matrimonio di Lydia.Vaughan è il classico bello e dannato musicista, che ha perso tutto dopo un successo iniziale e pensando di aver fallito. Tornare a casa per lui è un dolore che si riapre per la morte dei genitori, ma il brio di Lydia lo aiuta a smorzare i brutti ricordi che lo legano ad essa. Il rapporto che ha con la sorella è tenero, anche se non affettuoso come un tempo, così pure con gli amici d'infanzia. Solo il tempo lo aiuterà a riprendere quella parte di sé che ha 'perso' nel periodo in cui suonava con la sua band. Non sempre facile quando la cittadina in cui è cresciuto, è piccola e pettegola.La particolarità di 'Dirty', che mi ha fatto leggere con estrema leggerezza e brio, l'ho trovata nella costruzione dei dialoghi immediati e dinamici, come il periodo temporale in qui la storia si svolge: tutto molto veloce e ben descritto.Quelllo che invece mi ha infastidita è stato il trovare alcune frasi, e/o brani, che sembravano scritte da un'altra mano narrativa, facendo stonare tutto l'insieme. Comprendo che per accontentare più lettori, si decida di inserire parti hot o seducenti nella storia, ma in questo caso stonavano nell'insieme interrompendo una lettura scorrevole e piacevole.Il libro nel suo insieme è molto carino, facilmente ci si affeziona a Lydia seguendola in tutti i suoi sproloqui e follie che destabilizzano non solo Vaughan, ma ogni lettore li legge.
