Contrastes: Grammaire du français courant

good reference book for those of us who need a brush up on why grammar works the way it does as well as explaining those more advanced things written off as "that's just how it works". not a good reference for beginners or unambitious intermediate level speakers, but definitely priceless for upper intermediate or advanced learners, especially for those who have had breaks in their French courses.

If you're an advanced student of the French Language, this book would be the best option for you. Most of the grammar rules are written en francais and would frustrate anyone who didn't have a good grasp on the language- even I get frustrated from time to time! But this book covers every rule you'd ever need- even those that some native speakers don't know. It's a good purchase.

Just what my daughter needs

I had to order this book for my French Intermediate II class. Although I think the physical composition and size are great, I'm not a fan of the idea of explaining grammar rules in the language itself. I get the whole immersion technique, but still - if we're students of the language, an effective tool would be one that draws the comparisons/parallels of both English and French to bridge a more concrete understanding. But, if full immersion is desired- a good one.

This is an excellent book for students whose understanding of French grammar has surpassed that which is explained in introductory grammar books. The book delves into the nuances and subtleties of both common and advanced constructions (with English translations) to help English speakers of French communicate with greater precision and accuracy.

This is the ultimate grammar review. It's got all the exceptions to the rules, plus the exceptions to the exceptions, of which there are lots in French; so this is very useful. I've been teaching French for years and even I use it to check myself!

Not exactly very nicely packed and did not look very new

Really an excellent reference book. Anyone serious about learning/improving their French should have this book in their library.

Amazing for learning french grammar rules. It's all in french but has explanations in English as well for some examples to make it easier to understand.
