I threw mine in the washing machine and did a 30 minute soak. Then I let it air dry. I washed one with towels once and it got very linty. Now I just wash it by itself.

Q: Does the backing material dry rot after a while like other brands?

Can't really give you a legit yes or no answer. I have had it on my driver seat only for about a month or so. I work HVAC so I use it just thru the week so my seat doesn't get dusty or stained with my work clothes. But then I remove it when I'm not working. I have washed it twice and still like new. I would say invest in it and see for yourself.
