Vital, fresh, joyous and affecting
We settled down to enjoy this having been told it was a 'feel good' movie. However -I must warn you that there is a way to travel before all the warm and fuzzy moments arrive. The drama is such that you might consider it worrying for sensitive/ small children even though other parts are wonderfully charming and endearing. So have those tissues to hand.Connie Nielsen as young, beautiful, fey and life enhancing would be parent Maire O'Donnell is superb. Her taciturn husband Alec, played by Aidan Quinn, is a tougher nut to crack. 'Himself' as he is referred to, has a slightly different agenda in mind for this adoption project. Set in the fifties I thought or at least in an area stuck in that time warp. I am full of admiration for young Tomas, acted by John Bell, who he was beguiling, endearing and sweetly perfect in his role. The glorious scenery of Corrie Island is a total pleasure. What a joy to see the double rainbow over the sea, the cosy cottage home and the colourful new way life the lovely Maire has created for her little orphan boy. Other children on the island are terrific too in an Enid Blyton kind of way. The seal pup abandoned by his mother on the beach; well the parallels are clear. Then troubles come, and a terrible uncertainty is in the air. How Tomas deals with all this is heart wrenching and powerful, you will never forget watching 'a Shine of Rainbows'.

I loved the film
I loved the film, I bought this to watch while recovering from a operation, I enjoyed the film but was a bit disappointed with the condition of the box in which the DVD was in, although I realised that it had been pre owned I was surprised that it had been allowed to be sent out to a customer, the case was very battered and I was concerned at first about playing the disc on my blue ray player as the disc was marked in several places, we were able to clean it and found out it to be very sticky. I would also like to add it was very over priced in the condition, when I could have got the very same thing cheaper in our local charity shop. At least I would have known the money was going to a good cause. I wont be purchasing pre owned again.

Keep the tissues handy
I love a good tearjerker every now and then, and this film does it in spades. Reminiscent of The Three Lives of Thomasina. It may be a little overly sentimental at times, but that doesn't hurt it too much. The young Tomas is played brilliantly from start to finish, and the remainder of the cast do a good job of supporting him. The setting is gorgeous. I'll be watching this one again.

Wrong Rainbow
This is a lovely film set in lovely scenery, however as any physicist worth his degree will tell you that the secondary bow of the rainbow in the closing scene is coloured the wrong way round. For those of you who are ignorant on the subject of rainbows it is DOUBLE internal refraction of sunlight inside the raindrops hence the paler colours and the mirror image of the primary bow. Sorry to be such a know-all and spoiling your enjoyment.

Beautiful family film
I read this book many years ago, I didn't know they had made it into a film until I saw it advertised on another dvd I was watching. Although it is set in Ireland, and the original was set in Scotland, it is the same story and beautifully told with stunning scenery and brilliant performances by the actors, particularly the young boy, I could adopt him myself! it is a lovely film with no bad language or violence or anything off putting, although you might need a box of tissues handy! but with a happy ending.

This movie was one of my recommendations by amazon and at the cheap price I purchased it. Im so glad I did, its worth the money just for the cinematography alone..
