A beautiful fascinating book
This is a stunningly beautiful book, with glorious photographs of wildlife on land, at sea and in the air. The accompanying text is fascinating and makes for great reading, combining as it does the author's memories of the Galapagos islands where she lived for much of her life, with fascinating facts about the lives and habitats of the birds, reptiles and mammals that have evolved so spectacularly there.I bought this book as a souvenir of recent and already treasured visit to the Galapagos, but this book is much more than that. I rather wish i had bought this book before travelling to prepare me better for the wonders i would encounter there. If you are thinking of visiting Galapagos, have already been lucky enough to visit, or are simply interested in nature, this book is a must have.

Lovely. well illustrated,and very informative.
Surprised to find that the book is a superbly illustrated timepiece of the very knowledgeable author. It provides a beautiful illustration of the discovery of life of the many creatures on land, air, sea, on the unique Galapagos islands through the eyes of a maturing child up to adulthood, with her own photos which are of a very professional standard. Lovely book, well worth buying. Showed me what I missed when I was there only for a short 2 weeks !

A book worth having
Visited Galapagos last year. While there Tui De Roy gave our group an illustrated talk about her life and work. This book features stunning photographs of the islands that make up the archipelago and their wildlife together with very informative text based on her knowledge and experience of the islands. An excellent and informative reminder of our time there.

More than a coffee table book - Relevant essays to add depth to your trip
Great selection of essays with super photos. This was great background to several issues in the Galapagos and really helped set my expectations. I read this about a month before my galapagos island cruise; the issues and history covered so well by Tui De Roy allowed me to have some interesting discussions with the ships crew and naturalists as well as our host for our land accommodations pre-cruise. Our cruise ship, the Galaven, had this book in their library and I was able to recommend some relevant essays to fellow travelers who had particular interests. Highly recommend this to those who want to look behind the scenes or surface.
