So of course the first thing I did was to fire up the torch and put it onto these blankets, and lo and behold it works! Mind you its not for constant direct use, but it's perfect for protecting the wall or whatever for soldering, and brazing. Great size, too, big enough to have a larger coverage area, small enough to still fit in my plumbing box.

I ordered Weldflame carbonized felt to make alcohol stoves for camping. The 20x20 inch piece arrived promptly and in good condition (it was also softer than I expected.) The felt was super thick and even after testing ​the stoves​ several times the felt hasn't shrunk or deteriorated that I could tell. I'm pleased with my order.

This works well as a heat shield but will ignite when in direct contact with the flame from the torch.

I use it for my cooking grill in the winter to insulate it, cuts down fuel consumption, allows cooking at higher temperatures. I will eventually use it for the intended purpose, too. I suspect it will do fine.
