Easy to use. Versatile. Dishwasher-safe. Well-designed.
I use this for proper chips. I also use it for chipping onions, parsnips & swede as it has proved to be a lot quicker than slicing up but the results are nevertheless a good size for cooking. The chips are a big bigger than shop-bought "fries" but smaller than chipshop chips. There are four parts - the cutter grid, the lower casing that holds the cutter grid, the upper casing that you push down on & the pusher block that lives inside the upper casing. All are separable for washing. JML have paid attention to detail by having small drainage holes in the pusher block so I don't have to separate it from the upper casing for dishwashing if I don't want to.I don't bother flattening the end but just press the spud into the cutters far enough for it to be held firmly so I can then press the casing down to push it all through normally.I [now] cut big spuds lengthways first so that each lump is no wider than the cutter grid so it doesn't jam up.If I thump it down too heavily instead of applying steady pressure while pushing, it all gets jammed up afterwards and takes a few moments to sort out [a quick thump of the top casing on its own releases the cutter & the pusher bit then I can just pull them apart].I got carried away and tried chipping cheese for sarnies but lots gets stuck in the pusher block [this can be cleared up but takes a minute to do].{I had not previously realised that I could just freeze [potato] chips without any parboiling but the results have been excellent - chips frozen for a fortnight have cooked as well as fresh ones and have tasted just as good. The same applies to the other root vegetables but that was as I expected.}I chose this JML chipper after having seen awful reviews of the alternatives [hand-operated machines with big handles that cost significantly more but are apparently quite unreliable judging by the user reviews]. I am very happy with my choice and have had no problems with it. I have used it for about a month and chipped some twenty pounds of root vegetables with it; it shows no signs of any problems.

What an awful waste of money
If I could give this 0 stars I would!! What an awful waste of money! This is for chips yes? You cannot push a potato or a sweet potato through it!! I even tried a hammer and managed to get it about 1/3 of the way through in half an hour!!! In the end it went in the bin with the sweet potato inside it. Complete and utter waste of money. Please take note of this review if you are thinking of buying one!!!

Very good for the money
Very good for the money, gets a little clogged up though. requires a little force I find if you place it down on the counter top and thump it down with your fist rather like driving a nail with a hammer. But makes good chips so would recomened it to anyone looking for a chipper. And also takes up very little space unlike some of the bulkier units

Amazing
Takes three seconds! I spent ages deciding which chipper was the best (I have a lot of time on my hands!!), there are a lot of different ones to choose from. I always believe you get what you pay for so I was prepared to spend a lot of money, but this looked like a good idea and I thought for the price it was worth the risk. I have had the lever type before and they bend very quickly so I thought a good one would be £100+. It wasn't. This is perfect. I have arthritis in my hands and I can use this. It does take some force, less than a lever type but you don't actually have to use your hand, I use my forearm. You could sit on it!! It says you need to cut a flat surface on the potato for it to work but if you bash it onto the blades a bit before you start you don't have to. Goes in the dishwasher, doesn't take up much room, and I waited to write this until I had used it several times in case it bent. It hasn't. This was a bargain! Top of the range for a tenner!!

Not easy to use
You need a lot of strength to push the potato through even my husband couldn’t do it. Back to using a knife

Sounded good in theory!
I watched the video before I purchased this item and it looked very easy to use. However in practise it wasn't quite as easy to operate. It isn't any good for anyone with arthritis or fibromyalgia (I have both), as you have to use brute force to push the potato through the metal cutter. I had to hit the top of it hard, repeatedly and hurt myself in the process, and ended up slamming it in the worktop to get it to go through. Also with it being plastics, there was nothing in the outside if it to grip onto, and once wet was very slippy. Every time I managed to chip one potato, the cutting blade and the plastic mesh that pushes it through got fused together and I had to prise them apart and put all the components back together again to chip the next potato. In future I will have to enlist my partner's help, which sort of defeats the object and I could have done it quicker with a knife. On the plus side, the chips were a nice size, but I ended up wasting potato as there were a lot of 'slithers' left over.

Complete waste of money!!!!
Ain't as good as expected, on box and on JML video of item it shows it to be easy to do, a standard size potato doesn't even fit thru and doesn't cut the potato. Waste of money. Should of listened to pervious reviews and DO NOT BUY!!! Alot easier and quicker to slice them yourself. You need some strength to get this to slice. Boxed straight back up and returned the same day!!

GREAT PRODUCT
Bought a few months ago and wanted to use before I reviewed. I love it! reading the reviews didn't put me off and the only time ive struggled to use it I realised I had put the blade in upside down so I was trying to cut with the blunt edge! I found it works best on room temperature potatoes not ones that have been in the fridge. However you get a good workout with the harder ones lol.A couple of good hard thumps is enough to do the job and the chips are a great size.
