Excellent in function and form.
This is a 120v AC powered MOTION SENSOR that features ALL DAY & NIGHT or Night Only function for infrared sensing of objects, humans and animals.... It as well will operate not only lights, but will operate relays for control function as well.I use it for security purposes on my property to detect the presence of people, connected to equipment that warns the home occupants there in someone near / on the property lines. And yes, you can you use this sensor ( motion detector) for lighting as well... Keep in mind here Home Depot and Lowe's type motion detectors are for LIGHTING APPLICATIONS "only" . This device operates relays ( inductive loads ) as well as resistive loads ( lights ) โ The sensitivity and range are both excellent . The size is the most compact I've ever seen for a sensor that does this. This unit will last approx 7 years before it needs replacement.

Rugged, reliable, well-made
I've purchased motion detectors in the past. This one impresses me because it's small, but very rugged. You can tell just by the feel that it's not an el cheapo. It'll be exposed to severe weather, and I'll bet it'll take a lickin' and keep on tickin.I wish it it had more than a 30-foot sensitivity. But I knew that before I ordered it. It has very flexible light sensitivity range and time control. It's been on the job for about two weeks, and earlier this week we got 28" of snow, and high winds. It was encased in snow. I brushed it off, and it worked like a charm. BUT it does tend to get confused by heavy snow, so it kept the security light on all night. That was handy because I could just look out the window to see how miserable the weather was.

It works, But
It works, but the adjustments don't work very well. Paid more for sensor than the light fixture. Will see if it lasts longer than cheaper sensors.

So far, so good...
I bought two of these after finding out that they're a popular item in electrical supply stores. I priced them in a local electrical supply and saved ~$15.00 buying online. I called RAB Tech Support and was told that, despite the listing info on their web site, they work with LEDs too. Can definitely confirm that...

Replacement works.
Updated: 7-10-16Bought replacement and the unit works as advertised.I thought since the cheap motion sensors from the big box stores were so unreliable out of the box with short lifespan (typically $20 ea) a unit at $50+ would fare better. The unit fail right out of the box. I gave it two because I like the size and features.Have two new post lamps w/3 60W incandescent bulbs each working manually fed by a 15A GFCI breaker with no other connections or loads. When the sensor wired in properly the GFCI tripped every time power was applied. I removed one of the post lamps so only tried to control one post lamp w/3 60W candelabra bulbs. This time the GFCI did not trip but the single lamp did not light even on test mode. The input black wire was "hot" as indicated by my Fluke tester, but the red "switched" output never turned on. All neutral wires (white) are tied together. I've wired hundreds of devices including motion sensors and replaced AC Main Service boxes, so I'm not an amateur. I've initiated a return and will try this model one more time.

Easy to install
Controls my garage lights at night just like the controllers from 20 years ago.

Professional Quality
Likes: Professional Quality device works much better than knock-offs Easy to adjust all settings using small FH screwdriver or supplied plastic tool Easy to install to retrofit any lighting fixture that uses one of these knock-offsDislikes: These are now made in China. I try to buy Made in USA whenever possible. This is the reason I gave 4 stars. If Made in USA would have been 5.

Replaced identical 9 year old product
After diagnosing that my 9 year old RAB SMS500 was the reason my outdoor garage lights were not working, I ordered this replacement. The DIY installation was simple and my lights are now working properly.Upon inspection the old product, it appears that the lens had small cracks that either interfered with motion sensing or allowed moisture that incapacitated the device. All in all, 9 years seems like a reasonable life for an outdoor part although other outdoor parts seem to last longer.

RAB is ususally reliable, but buying through Amazon reduces the warranty period from 5yrs to 1month.
Seemed like a nice motion sensor at the start, but something screwed up with the internal electronics after 1 year so the light wouldn't turn on. Rab warranty is 5yrs on these products, but not if bought through Amazon, so once the Amazon 1month return window is up, you are on your own. I'll buy my replacement sensor from a Rab authorized distributor.
