Did Not See That Coming...
If you enjoy those, "I did not see that coming," moments in stories, then this first book in this three part series is for you. I just finished the first book, "The Pact," and just now started the second installment, "My Sister's Betrayal." The prologue in The Pact is what had me hook from the beginning. It's a great story from a prospective seldom written about or seen of pre World War II, from the experiences of teenage girls. I knew this was a great story when I myself actually talked back out loud to the pages after I read a passage that involved serious drama and betrayal. The angle I enjoyed about this story is, as a history enthusiast, i know the history of what was happening during this period of time in Austria, however the author, Roberta Kagan, kept the focus on the Blood Sisters with only bits and pieces of the historical issues subtle enough to let the reader know what was going on in the background. I could definitely see this novel as a selected read in a book club, and if the following two installments are just as good... I'm already hooked into the second installment from the prologue, I would recommend this series for anyone, adult and teen aged readers alike.

Emotional historical fiction
Emotional historical fiction. So many twists and turns. The character growth of all the girls but Dagna is phenomenal. Cliff hanger ending

Great Book Series
I have read plenty of books but I have never read a book let alone a book series that had me hanging on every word. It got better and better with each book. I just finished the 3rd book “When Forever Ends”. I honestly can admit that I cried, I never have done that after reading a book. I can’t wait to read more books by Roberta Kagan.

Roberta Kagan has done it again.
I loved this book as I have loved all the others I’ve read. I don’t like to tell possible readers about her books, but for sure every one is rich in description, and a story that everyone should read. This, as many others I’ve read, is a trilogy about WWII. IT IS DESCRIBED AS A STORY OF SISTERHOOD IN WWII VIENNA. I am right now beginning book2 , as the plot thickens, and after that, book 3. As always, I read books I love slowly, cause I hate saying good bye to books I love. My recommendation is to read this trilogy to learn more about those characters who Roberta has brought to life for all of us.

3 1/2 stars
While I liked this book and will definitely read the next one, I feel that it is more Young Adult then historical fiction. There is just something about the writing and the story telling that feels it’s more for the young adult reader. The story unwinds a bit slowly and it does feel like it’s the same conflict and then resolve, over and over again. However, I am invested in the characters and definitely want to know how it all ends up so I will continue to read on to find out what happens.

I cotinue to be impressed
I stumbled upon MS Kagan's writing with the Dietrich series. No matter which book of hers I read I am reminded of her skill and I am happy she started writing even though she was in her late50's,This book is a chick lit endeavor. I am a man that generally stays away from that genre. When I saw this fine author had a new series out, I simply had to read it My message.to all who reads this review is READ ALL OF HER BOOKS, They are simply that good.

Great book to read
WWII had so many horrific outcomes. This story relates a few of these that are so unbelievable, and yet they are similar to events that happened. One of the saddest times in our history.
