Good puzzle book for an older child -- nice small gift or stockingfiller
This Puzzle Quest: Ghost Hunter book is smaller than A5 but larger than A6 in size (about a standard paperback book size)and so would fit nicely in a handbag or small backpack. As the title suggests, it contains a range of puzzles to solve (e.g. mazes, wordsearches and number puzzles), all themed around a quest. In this case, the quest is to go ghost hunting in an old mansion where all is not as it seems. The quest is explained at the front of the book and each puzzle is designed to help you to do so and provide another element of the story. The difficulty of the puzzles and activities contained within them vary, which is nice, and they are all differently presented so keeping the attention of the young person completing this book. The answers to all the puzzles and activities are at the back of the book. There are over 100 pages of puzzles and activities, and they are nicely illustrated in black ink.My only very minor bugbear is the quality of the paper which is a beige/brown colour and not overly thick. I would have preferred a slightly thicker paper in a bright white as I think the illustrations would 'pop' more then.I think this book would be an ideal stocking filler and/or an activity for travel or a holiday. Priced at £4.99 at the time of this Amazon Vine review, this seems good value and I am happy to recommend.

Spine-tingling puzzles
This ghostly quest is anything but random because each puzzle takes you a step nearer to solving the whole quest. It will make a great present for an inquisitive child, as it is thrillingly illustrated. A lovely book for parent-child bonding, and all the puzzle challenges are massive fun.You will find silhouette-matching puzzles, word-searches, crosswords, code-cracking exercises, mazes, number puzzles and lots more, each set in eight different haunted locations. In each chapter the puzzles accumulate answers to complete another page that gives a clue towards the final solving of the quest. All the answers are printed in the back of the book and there are illustrated note pages, too. These are great for keeping track of your clues. If your child uses a soft pencil to complete the puzzles, the answers can be rubbed out and the book used again when the answers have been forgotten. Even better, write the answers on separate pieces of paper and use baking paper to trace the tangled path puzzles and word searches. When the book has been taken on its final journey, it can be recycled as it is made from responsibly sourced paper and vegetable based ink.One of an exciting series of a dozen or more puzzle quests.

There's a Ghost in My House
I was the type of child that loved a puzzle book growing up and would sometimes even use my imagination to link the tasks within something like ‘Junior Puzzler’ with a story. Collins must have had a similar upbringing as they have released a set of ‘Puzzle Quest’ books that combine a story together with puzzles that would suit a puzzle loving 7–10-year-old.The books are essentially the same with just the theme being replaced, space, time travel, magical creatures, magic lands. The story is not much more than an introduction for each puzzle but does keep the tale moving along. The puzzles themselves are the best with a nice mix of words, number and observation puzzles. Each is in keeping with the theme of the book so you may see a planet or a pheonix. As all the books are so similar you will want to spread out reading them as you will come across some common style puzzles. They also suffer from the same issue of being on slightly dull grey paper. This makes the books more affordable, but slightly less special. The ‘Puzzle Quest’ books would work perfectly for children to tackle on a long car journey or in quieter moments of a holiday.
