What makes a person great? Is it the wealth they create or the name they earn for themselves?
What makes an individual truly successful? Is it the copious amount of money they make? Or is it the name they earn for themselves? Or is it simply the fame gained over the due period of time? Everyone will have their own answers to these questions. Like they say, to each their own. For me, there's only one answer & it's quite simple. It's the ability to support & sustain one's family throughout the very course of time no matter what situation life pushes one in. Let it be favorable or unfavorable, harsh or stable. Because there's nothing in this world which is greater than family. As family always comes first before anything. If one is able to remember them throughout their journey, then there's nothing which can stop him/her to reach the very pinnacle of success.I won't bore the readers with the details of what's inside this novel, for that one must pick it to read inorder to find more about it. As the description pretty much gives away everything there's to know about the inspirational journey of Manu Haribhai Patolia whose story could be traced from the village of Taravada in Gujarat. It starts from the very first moment when he first landed in San Francisco in 1969 with only 75 cents to make a name for himself. As bewilderment enclosed upon him as to what little he's going to achieve in such a mere feeble amount of penny. Not only did he create a huge empire for himself, but at the same time he also established himself as a reputed entrepreneur by being the head of InvaPharm Inc. Despite all drawbacks, he graduated as a civil engineer & through his sheer brilliance - built an empire worth $250 million.Though I'm not very much fond of nonfictions, let one biographies or autobiographies for the sake of matter. However, such remarkable achievements where one individual pushes all odds & reaches the top making a name for himself inspires me to go to any lengths to read & finish such novels. This is only something we hear about in stories or news, but never read or pay attention to it completely. However, by reading these kind of novels - one can truly understand the importance of patience & perseverance; as they teach us a lot from their life stories. The immense struggle behind the paths taken by them, the immaculate conception & research done which is presented to us in textual format is something worth reading for.

A well-written memoir
From Village to the World by Manu Patolia and Kailash Mota.Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. -Martin Luther King, Jr.Whenever I read this quote, I get flabbergasted by the idea of "struggle" and "success". I believe these two are the most talked about words around the world. And why not, everyone in the present time wants to be successful and reach their goals, but do we understand what struggle means and what it takes to be successful? From the Village to the World is the inspiring story of Manu Haribhai Patolia whose journey began in the village of Theravada in Gujarat. It traces five decades in the life of Patolia, from when he first landed in San Francisco in 1969 with only 75 cents in his pocket to establishing himself as a reputed entrepreneur and head of InvaPharm Inc. He fulfilled his dream of graduating as a civil engineer despite setbacks, and through sheer entrepreneurial brilliance built an empire worth $250 million. My love for reading biographies and memoirs made me pick up this book and I must say I made an authentic choice. The success story of Manu Patolia is something that should be known or at least heard, because of the sheer brilliance and dedication this human being showed during his early years, from having no background to making a million-dollar company is not an easy job.As you read through the chapters and learn about his life, you understand the importance of the constant struggle and determination one needs to thrive. There were multiple setbacks in his journey but what made me stupefied was his perseverance in going forward, even if it felt like he should quit.Besides that as a memoir, it's an engaging read, that grabs your attention with its superb narration and selection of anecdotes from the life of the author.Lastly, I just want to say it's a great book and memoir that would genuinely help you understand the struggle and success.

A compelling read
This is the first memoir that I'm reading, and it's inspiring to say the least. This journey made me realize how one can achiever anything with sheer determination. This is a life journey of Manu Patolia, who made all his dreams into reality with his hard work and perservarance. As it is no easy feet to be a millionaire, who fulfilled his promise to himself when he procured houses for all his siblings along with a source of income for them, all this coming from a humble background. The story spans across five decades of Manu Patolia's life, from his schooling in different towns in Gujarat to his college and then migrating to San Francisco with barely 75 cents in his pocket. The struggles one faces in another country while struggling with a foreign language. The timing of the book is perfect, as I'm introspecting a lot about my life path and where do I want it to take me, the hard work and the will to do anything to fulfill one's dreams is inspiring me to go after my heart's desire. The book is written in simple language which is easy to understand, deliberately written so to reach a wider audience as a lot of people need this little push that if one human can do it, you can do it as well. Narration of the life incidents makes it an interesting read.
