Abandonment to Divine Providence

Practical spiritual direction.
A little book with a big message. Truly classic, and one that can be referred to over and over again. The first two chapters deal with the doctrine of divine providence and the following chapters give very practical advice, showing the reader how to put trustful surrender to divine providence into practice. There are headings such as "In poverty and its hardships" "In sickness and infirmity" "In death and the manner of it" and "In the loss of spiritual consolation". Very sound doctrine with Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur.

Simple and incredibly inspiring. I have been reading a little of this book each morning and it has been transformative.

Abandonment to Divine Providence ( Jean-Pierre de Caussade)
I have started but not finished my reading of this classic of the spiritual life. Further study is clearly recommended.

Great book, pity about the spelling mistake in the printing on the front cover of this edition!

A classic to keep and reread.
This is a wonderful, unpretentious book written in the 18th century that is as fresh and relevant as if it were recently written. I am not a writer, so won't try to elaborate. I will say that It is a spiritual book originally written by a French priest to encourage a bunch of nuns to trust in God. It is plain spoken, yet beautiful. I am rereading it for the 3rd time and see something new every time.

It's a real classic.
"Abandonment" is the very first book i read when I entered religious life 60 years ago. It is a classic of religious literature. The concept of "the Sacrament of the Present Moment" has been both sustaining and inspiriing all these years. It's a bit "archaic" in its language, but the meaning derived from it is worth the effort of trying to navigate the language difficulties.

Outstanding spiritual direction
The initial Abandonment text translation is good (though I prefer John Beevers). The letters are an outstanding source of wisdom and guidance for anyone stumbling through the dark nights. Cassaude spiritual direction ranks at the top along with the poems and companion texts of San Juan de la Cruz.

wise words, slow read
Fr. Caussade's letters serve as succinct nuggets of wisdom, standing the test of time over 200 years later. The repetition of his words helps to plant the seed of obedience to Gods will.
