Banshee returns for its ten-episode third season, the Emmy-winning show is executive produced by Jonathan Tropper, Peter Macdissi, Alan Ball and Greg Yaitanes. The show stars Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, Pa., where he continues his criminal pursuits while enforcing his own code of justice. Other returning cast regulars include: Ivana Milicevic as Carrie Hopewell, a notorious jewel thief who lives in Banshee under an assumed identity with her family, which has recently learned of her criminal past; Ulrich Thomsen as Kai Proctor, an intimidating, wealthy businessman who believes he is above the law; and Frankie Faison as Sugar Bates, a powerful and wise former boxer and ex-con who is now the owner of the local watering hole.

EVER-INCREASING VIOLENCE WITH SO MANY SCORES TO SETTLE
Steel yourselves for no let-up as bogus sheriff "Luke Hood" faces trouble from every side. Arch-enemy ruthless Proctor remains out to destroy him (whilst beset with problems of his own from rival drug gangs). Fearsomely massive Chayton urges fellow Indians to rise against the hated whites, especially as one of their tribe is now a Deputy - a traitor indeed. Another Deputy used to belong to the ultra-far right, former associates determined to bring him to heel. Meanwhile a psychopathic colonel has a secret stash of money for employment of mercenaries, power over all clearly his aim. Then, of course, there is always the possibility the sheriff's cover will be blown....Despite such annoyances, Lucas and his mates plan to steal that money and set themselves up for life - well away from Banshee. (Cue for a "Mission Impossible" venture that greatly excites.)Here is fare strictly for those who can stand the pace, all ten episodes packed with much that is grim: blood in plenty, torture, burning alive, decapitation all amid other innumerable deaths (some of them spectacular). All cast act with conviction - not least the one playing Burton, he who looks so innocent in his bow tie and spectacles. Beware him.Except for the local Amish community, all concerned seem hell bent on an early demise. Many die during Season 3. How many will survive the next?Bonuses include commentaries and a "Zoomed in" background to each episode. Disc 1 contains excellent "Banshee Origins" features, well worth exploring before venturing onto the third season itself.Surely a contender for one of the most violent shows television has to offer, "Banshee" represents cult viewing for all who relish seriously flawed characters in pitched battles to survive.

Not my favourite series
I was not very impressed with this series. The plot seemed very contrived. I am sure that some people loved it, however.

A Wonderful Series
Banshee is unlike any other television show. That is a compliment. It is as mentioned in other reviews very violent and it does not shy away from the occasional nudity scene, but these fit into a magnificent series that continue the adventures of Sheriff Hood a man freshly released from prison who stopped off at a bar for a whisky and walked out as the person in charge of law and order in a small town called Banshee. Luckily for the viewers Banshee has a problem with organised crime and Sheriff Hood has a past that is never too far from catching up with him. As a result we have a wonderful series jam packed with action and at times real concern as to how the main characters can survive their latest predicament. This has to be one of the all time great television shows. Thoroughly recommended.

The 'Never A Dull Moment' series returns
I absolutely love Banshee. Yes, it's filled with violent scenes and yes, the plot-lines are sometimes bonkers. But eh, it's just so well done. The actors consistently step up to the plate and bring off some brilliant performances - so much so that it's easy for the viewer to believe in them and the dangerous situations they are continually confronted with - especially where Hood is concerned. As always, Antony Starr is a revelation - he's one of those few actors that can almost tell you what he's thinking without saying a word - his facial expressions often give away all you need to know.I assume that if you are checking out this review, you are already privy to the background of Banshee and have seen Seasons One & Two. I therefore only need to mention that, if you appreciated those, you will not be disappointed with Season Three. It's pulpy crime drama of the highest order, and despite the gratuitous violence, it also manages to include a fair amount of dark humour. Switch the lights off, hold on to your seats and enjoy the ride!

Just a perfect adult TV show - get it watched, seriously !!!
Only really got to hear about this after researching what Antony Starr has been in previous to The Boys. All I can say is it's up there with my favourite TV shows ever (full of action / sex / violence) and I binged all 4 series in about 3 weekends because it's addictive !The characters are great, they all bring something and it's just fabulous to watch (not for the feint hearted mind, it really can be brutal in places). I'm not going to give any more info than that as I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't watched the show.

One of the best TV series ever made
One of the best TV series ever made.Plenty of action, plot twists, blood and snot, gratuitous violence and soft porn. For me, Job is the superstar - what a fab actor.Series 4 has just started on Sky Atlantic and it has been revealed that this will be the final series. In a way, this is quite sad as it is a super series although it's probably best to end on a high as someone is bound to work out just who Sheriff Hood and his bunch of Merry Men really are at some stage. Probably be a blood bath or three along the way!
