great time and energy saver
I use this for firewood processing and wish I had discovered it sooner. Great for pulling slippery wet logs off the pile onto the log deck and hook stays in the wood surprisingly well if you drive it to. Fail to get it in properly and you'll end up flying backwards when it comes out.Shaft feels a bit light weight but seems to be strong enough.Could be improved with a little more weight and some grip on the handle, which becomes quite slippery when wet. Think I'll get some sports grip to wrap around it.

As good as you expect...if you expect the best
It is expensive, it seems a little limited in use but like all Fiskars products it excels and makes you glad you spent the money. I use it in tandem with a set of Fiskars log tongs and moving large chunks of tree around has never been easier or safer. Even on it's own this tool allows you to grab hold of the chunk you want to move and drag or flip it until it's where you want it to be without crushing or grazing your fingers, without pulling tendons in your wrists or muscles in your back. Just slap it into the wood and you have a comfortable, ergonomic handle to perform the manoeuvre. If shifting lots of just logs the tongs are great too. If you are moving rounds or chunks of trunk a second Sappie is probably the way to go. I have a hatchet with this sort of hollw plastic handle and I have used it so much in the last 25 years that the head is almost gone. The handle however is like new. This kind of tool will out-live you. The design is flawless although the "holster" is a bit solid and unwieldy. That's fine, you don't use the holster all day, you use the tool and the tool is worth the money.

First time ever with a Fiskars product not 5 star for me.
The head needs to be heavier and the pick point needs to be longer........Thats it in a nutshell.Brilliant build quality as usual. Strong steel used. Comfortable handle and light too. Reasonable value for money I suppose given its limitations...... see opening line! The short light head does not catch the bark as securely as it would if the pick point was longer and had more weight at that point. So often I have cursed this short sappie. I will probally end up welding a longer heavier point to it to actually make it useful for me.I use it to pull wood trunk (min. 1m, max 3m lengths) along rollers to a saw head and splitter for firewood processing.

Useful item
Got this when I bought a Fiskar hand axe for splitting logs, good item but not essential generally you don't need to hold a log when using the axe but if you do need to this is the way to do it.

Worth its weight in gold....
Really well balanced and feels super strong despite its light weight. Easily picks up logs. I'm so impressed I've gone for the larger size as well..... plus the fiskars legendary splitting axe...
