The carrot pellets need to be rehydrated in warm water and it just takes a few minutes. The addition of a small amount of oil helps to convert beta-carotene to vitamin A, which is a fat-soluble vitamin, and a lot of the benefits in Olewo Carrots come from vitamin A. To receive maximum benefits form the product, you should add the small amount of oil.

Q: When soaked according to the directions, the carrots are very watery. Should I use less water? Soak longer?

Yes, you can use less water if after 10 min not all the water is absorbed. 1 tbsp of carrot pellets to one cup of water is the manufacturer's recommendation, but I know a lot of our customers think it is too watery. It is important to follow the recommended amount of carrot pellets for your dog's weight, but the amount of water you use for rehydration can be adjusted to your liking. Most customers seem to like a consistency that resembles baby food and you can get that by using less water. For our own dogs we actually use a lot of water and their meals turn out king of soupy. Consuming more water actually helps digestion. That's probably where the manufacturer's recommendation stems from.
