Great book
I love a who dunit book .This book had no unnecessary characters,no unnecessary words that make you want to give up reading as you are completely lost the plot as to who is who. The plot was good I sort of figured out who did it but only in the last two chapters.Very much enjoyed it will defiantly read the next one .

Great Read
This was the first in what I believe will be a great series. I enjoyed the book immensely, although the sustainability of Edward signalled to me that he would be the murder victim. Lots of plausible murderers, but the real murderer was down my list of suspects, as was the well hidden motive! I look forward to the next in the series. Recommended.

Very enjoyable and absorbing read
Humour and suspense while Mrs Forbes and Lady Jane discover who did it! Some interesting historical tidbits thrown in along the way.

Good start to a new series
A new-to-me author and the start of a new series. George, the 7th Lord Linton was much loved and will be well missed by all, unlike his eldest surviving son, Edward who inherits the title and is much detested. But detested enough to be murdered?I found this an interesting read, with many well developed characters and many possible murderers, which to be makes for a good whodunnit. But 4 stars? I found it lacked a bit of depth, but perhaps as the author develops the series over time, this will improve. Promising start, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

A good murder mystery
If you want to sit by a roaring log fire, feet up, drink in hand, this is for you. A new series of three books. It involves Lords, lady’s , police and of course the lady amateur sleuth as a house guest ready to solve murders. It’s light reading and easy. Like another reviewer, I felt it lacked a little depth but I enjoyed it. Written in the style of the 1920s took a little getting used to but an interesting story and I look forward to the following books in the series.

Surprising ending
Thoroughly delightful, cozy read with well developed characters. It was fun to be immersed in a bygone Era. Surprising ending.

Just what I needed
A fun, pleasant read. Nothing to keep me awake at night. But enjoyable. I’ll be looking for the next one in the series.

Murder Most Aggravating
I sympathize with Mrs. Forbes for recently losing her husband, but she really is annoying and quite meddlesome. Not only that, but she really isn’t a good detective despite her husband being a judge. Lady Jane did most of the detecting, but even that was hypothetical. For most of the story they insisted all of the suspects alibis were weak but considered them strong enough at the end to reveal the murderer. I found the plot weak and characters confusing. What were they all doing there at the house around Christmas time? Still, I appreciated that there was no gory violence, bad language, or detailed sex scenes to offend my (almost) virgin mind.

Enjoyable first entry in a series
I liked both the characters and the setting, and the plot was quite good.An intelligent, academic minded young woman and her intuitive aunt make for very nice detectives. The 1920's are a popular era for mysteries and I recommend his book for those who like them.Chris Wallace
