This pen is everything I expected
I had hoped the very positive reviews I read on this pen were correct and I was not disappointed. The pen is very smooth writing, and easy to fill with ink and a beautiful writing instrument. I have the medium nib, which for some, may be a bit finer than expected for a medium. I had read in several reviews that it puts down a finer line than one might think for a medium nib, and selected it on that basis, not wanting too broad a line but not wanting a spidery script either. It matches my expectations. For those looking for a broader stroke, I would advise selecting the broad nib; if you want something more than fine, but still fine enough for close work, go with the medium. One could possibly broaden the line with more pressure on the pen, but I cannot yet bring myself to do that; I am enjoying how it glides over the paper with no pressure right now.

Nice looking and writs very comfortable
I totally agree with the comments by other buyers. It is not heavy, just perfect weigh to hold in hand for a wonderful writing experience. It makes me feel good each and every time when I hold the pen in hand and ready to write. I actually like the idea that the cap stay on just because I feel a real pen in my hand. Well worth the extra dollar, just for the feel of it.

Nice enough
I wish Sailor made more piston fillers as I am not a fan of cartridges. I wanted to like this pen, which I've understood is the only piston filler they make; however, it doesn't have the gravitas of the 1911, it is a little too light. I also find the gold rings around the ink view window to give the pen a cheaper look, and they can become a little uncomfortable for the fingers when writing. The nib is wonderful, like most Sailor nibs -- it is a ready writer, not too wet, but just right. I wish they would make the 1911 as a piston filler. That pen would be perfect if it were. The Realo is just "meh."

Sent wrong nib size.
Ordered a Bold (also known as broad) nib size and received a fine nib. Bold and fine are not even in the same ballpark for line width. The pen seems to have the usual Sailor quality so this one star review is for the poor job of the retailer and not the pen itself. I own many Sailor pens and I can highly recommend the brand if not this particular retailer.

Strangely Scratchy 21-K Gold Nib - but grows on me over time
Waited and received this 1911 Realo from Japan with much anticipation and high expectation given Sailor brand’s and 1911’s reputation. Well, the broad 21-K gold nib is strangely scratchy - how could it be? Hate to give anything less than 3-star, since overall the pen looks exquisite (even the look of the gold nib). I may have gotten a lemon, an expensive lemon this time. I am not sure whether or not I would pay for another one just to prove the first one is a lemon. Disappointed, but what can I do? Well, it may not be a good idea to order high-end pens online, but my other orders, such as Pelikan M800, Lamy 2000, and Pilot 912, were all good. Bummed out.Update - 8/25/2023: off and on trying to write with this Sailor, and to my own surprise, the initial disappointment wears off over time and I am gradually reversing my initial opinion since the scratchiness starts to feel like a pencil-like (coarse pencil though since it’s a broad H-B nib) feedback that is quite different from my previous liking, but grows on me a bit. The good point is that this pen’s “feedback” does not alter your natural writing flow at all, and the end result is the proof on paper - pretty good!I have other scratchy pens that had minds of their own, which resulted bad handwriting. This one does not do that at all. Thought that I’d better share my experiences, and change my rating from 3-star to 4-star.

Enjoying the Realo's bigger ink capacity!
I love Sailor fountain pens because their nibs, weight, and size are perfect for me and have many that use converters. A downside is that Sailor converters have a small ink capacity, which means that I have to fill up frequently and constantly unscrew the barrel to check ink levels. I purchased the Realo model because it holds more ink than the converters (though certainly not as much as other fountain pen brands, such as Pelikan, for example) and am happy to report that it is everything that I love about Sailor pens with the added ink capacity. The piston fill mechanism works well and smoothly and I can go a little longer between refills. The ink window is a big plus since it lets me see just how much ink is remaining in the pen even without having to uncap the pen. The pen writes well with that characteristic Sailor feedback that feels a lot smoother with the broad nib as compared to finer nib widths. Super happy with this pen and just ordered another!

Feels cheap even at a bargain price!
I’ve been looking to buy a Reala to complement my other high quality pens for a long time, waiting for it to go on sale. I got it at an amazing price but it feels cheap and not in the same league as my Mont Blanc and other high end pens. Sent it back!
