You need to hard wire this item.
Like others I was hesitant to initially connect the lamp to a 240V supply, as all of the instructions were in some far eastern language. However I rechecked the Amazon advert and found it was suitable for 240v. What people should be aware of is that this is designed to be hard wired into the sewing machine, which is why it does not come fitted with a plug, but with spade terminals, as shown in the picture. Connecting this to a BS 1363 13A plug can be a little tricky as the core dia of the wire is very small. Just snip off the spade terminals strip back the wire and away you go. Tinning the bare wire ends makes fitting into the plug terminals easier. I changed the fuse to the lowest i had which was a 3A still far to high for such a low power item, but your limited by the plug design. I may look at a 0.25A in line fuse in the future.Thats enough of how to wire it. Your probably wondering how well it works. Firstly the base is magnetic. So how do I mount this to my plastic housed machine. I simply hot glued a large penny washer to the side of the machine. I suppose you could also use double sided tape, as the lamp assemble wiegh's very little. The base is also fitted with a on off switch which is very handy. The LED head is on the end of a flexible shaft which can be bent into any shape, therefore you can get the light wherever you want. Light quality is excellent, and makes life so much easier, as new machine built in lamps appear to be on the weak side.Overall Im happy with the purchase, cannot give any more than 3 stars due to lack of instructions, with the most important being that neither the packaging or instructions gave an operating voltage. Amazon should not be selling this item, as I believe that the law requires this basic information to be clearly displayed.

Treat with care!
There's a lot about this item causing confusion. Let me explain. If you don't know anything about electrics, I advise against buying it. It's not CE marked and should not even be on sale in the EU. There are exposed metal parts which would indictae it should be earthed, but it isn't. Equally poor is the tiny size of the conductors. I estimate they are around 0.25 sq.mm. I can't find the cable manufacturer's spec sheet. However, it's exactly what I want on my bandsaw, so I've put a 13A plug on it and fitted a 0.5A (500mA) fuse to protect the conductors. It will also always be protected by a RCD, so in theory, it should never become dangerous. I will NEVER leave it on when I lock up (everything is switched off at the wall beforehand) so, having given it some thought, I'm happy it will be safe.Having said that, the light is bright and the magnet awesome - ideal for my needs.

Not suitable for the UK.
I don't think this item should be sold in the UK. It should have a moulded three pin UK plug on the end, and fitted with the correct fuse. Instead, it comes with two wires terminated with spade connections. These have to be cut off and bared and fitted to a plug. Unless you have the correct tools and know what your doing, I would AVOID this item. I have fitted it to a UK plug and it works fine, but for the reasons given above, I can not recommend it to others.

I use this on my bandsaw, it has a good brightness and can be moved on its goose-neck to suit the job. Four stars only because the first one I had died far too young.

Is really helpful but a bit small. And it doesn't come with any instructions so I had to search on the internet how to conect it.

Good product & value - just make sure it works as some don't!

Low priced but give a good light with a strong magnetic base.
I bought two of these, added 13 Amp plugs with 3A fuses and use them on my two metal-working lathes. They give a good light and the magnetic bases are very strong. I have good strip lights above the machines but these wander lights will be very useful when using boring bars and internal threading tools in dark places.

Wary of using it.
My own fault I guess for not reading the small print but it came from China and all instructions on the box are in Chinese. It came without a plug and with foreign looking wire attachments to wire to a plug but I am unsure of the electric rating as the Option box with two choices is unticked so I am wary of using it in case it's unsuitable in this country (UK ).
