HIgh quality, nice appearance, sturdy foam
I actually use these mats to dry and block hand knitted sweaters and other knitwear, rather than using them as a play surface. Because of that, I need something that will not bleed color, is very smooth, and can handle having blocking pins put in and out of it without falling apart. I got these because I needed more mats than what I had. My other mats are specifically designed for blocking knitwear but these are, if anything, nicer. There is an extra piece attached to one side with a straight edge so that you can form a square or rectangle that does not have the puzzle piece edging. This is helpful for me because it gives me a bit more surface area but would be really nice if these were on a floor, both for a nicer appearance and to minimize tripping on the edge. The pieces all interlock smoothly. These are not quite as thick as the ones I have that are specifically for knitwear but are plenty thick enough for my purposes and to provide a nice cushion on the floor.

Great for little ones
Our house has a "step down" into the marble-floored living room from the rest of the house...and now we have grandbabies, not quite walking yet, that like to zip around and follow us everywhere. So we got these, to protect them from the inevitable falls out of the kitchen. There's plenty of cushion to protect their little heads, elbows, and knees, and the tiles, though they don't match the floor, of course, have a wood grain print that matches the walls and decor of our home.16 squares cover a LOT of floor space! If you have a play area for your little ones, or just a floored area that you want to make easier to walk on, this is the set for you. No neon colors, or drab grey..a way more subtle look.

Comes with sides to minimize puzzle piece look but slippery.
I purchased these to help my senior dog get around on our slippery hardwood floors. Unfortunately, though the mats are soft, they are very slippery. My son likes sliding around on them in his socks. Though they didn't work for my intended purpose, they do seem very nice. They have removable sides on two sides of 8 of them, and the other 8 have a removable side on 1 side. This makes them look neat and clean when pieced together instead of having puzzle pieces facing out. You can remove the sides so you can configure them multiple ways. They are about 1/2" thick. I purchased the wood grain brown color and it has a maple color. These would be great for a nursery, playroom or concrete floor where you don't want the bright colors, but still want the benefits of a foam floor.

Only got half
Why did I only get 8 pieces when it said 16? I only got half of the items.

Nice for a kid's play area
This is a smaller set of foam blocks that we used first on the floor of an area for parents to take pictures of their kids in front of a holiday backdrop and later on the floor of a classroom book area. They are a little thinner than the larger foam blocks (the ones that are about two feet square) but about equal in thickness to other smaller block sets. The woodgrain is nice--it was pretty convincing in some of the photos, but is obviously not wood when seen in person, but it still makes a very nice floor space that helps define our library corner and make it more comfortable for the kids. I would not be averse to buying more of these to expand the space if we needed to in the future. They have also held up well to having piles of preschoolers sitting on them and tugging them apart, as well as to repeated cleaning with antiseptic cleaners. A good choice for what we needed. Took off one star because they would be better if a little thicker, but they still provide cushioning.

Just What I Needed
I needed to create a cushioned area in front of my whiteboard so that my feet weren't killing me by the end of each school day. This product was just what I needed. It is easy to clean up and sanitize, has enough cushioning that my feet do feel better, and can be re-positioned into multiple size configurations for when I need to change things up.

Like the padded, extra warmth and wood grain options.
Using these pads to protect hardwood floors in art studio and am pleased with the added comfort they provide under work tables and in front of easels. Box comes with eight corner edge pieces for option to create two completely finished square mats. The 16 tile count make it possible to create one 2 x 5 and 2 x 3 mat using all available pieces but there are many options to consider. Order had three manufacture flaws (see photos) of portion missing top layer design, tile corner mis-alignment, and one tile thicker than others creating a rise in height.

Exactly what I needed!
Update: I finally got to use these to exercise with these and they are VERY slippery! They work okay for walking in place, but when I did the side-to-side movement, I might as well have been iced skating! Also, when I picked the tiles up, they left the wood floor underneath much more slippery...I had to wipe that area of the floor down with alcohol on a paper towel to remove the slipperiness. (This was more of an issue on the varnished part of the floor than the part that had some replacement plywood on it.) I've deducted one star because of how slippery it is...I'm going to need to buy some grippy socks to use with this!I have a very small area in my bedroom that I can use for doing my Walk Away the Pounds exercise videos. I needed to be able to walk back and forth and move side to side, too. I don't like exercising on the hard wood floor I have and the yoga-type exercise mats I got were too thin and only work for the back and forth, not the side to side, movement. So, I was looking for a mat that I could form into the L shape I needed and that could be easily assembled and disassembled, since I didn't want to leave the mat down all the time. This solution seems perfect! The squares interlock easily and the amount of cushioning is just right. And, because it's made up of interlocking squares, I could form whatever shape I needed. (See picture, but please excuse the mess!) And, if I do decided to leave the squares down sometimes, I like the way they look on my wood floor...not too much of a contrast.
