Works great... maybe?

Bought one of these from Amazon. Aside from a rather janky download from Google Drive to get your operating system, the thing ran like a champ. I installed Ubuntu from the official site and had no major issues with the device. It runs much faster than most of the single board computers so I've loaded it with Docker and a series of containers and they run well. The downside, aside from the uncomfortable feeling of downloading the OS from Google Drive, is that there seems to be a lack of quality control. After being happy with the purchase here, I purchased a 2nd from a different web site. It took a while to come in but when it did, it was Dead On Arrival. I spent hours trying to breathe life into the board but regardless of which ROM, cable, or SD card, I'd change to, I could never get an output on the monitor, even using the exact same configuration as the 1st device. Fortunately, the vendor is agreeing to take it back but through that site, the shipping back to China is going to cause me to lose a bit of money on the deal while still being left with nothing.

HDD Sandwich?

I'll start with this is an awsome little board that works great(ish) for half the reason I bought it: a cheap to run, sshfs host for my usb 3 hdd's along with being a play around linux box. After owning it for a month or so, I actually prefer to use the opi5 hooked up to the tv with mouse and keyboard over my laptop. The chip it's self is super fast and benchmarks around the same as my ryzen5 3450u according to the websites, I havn't done the test myself. The reason I ended up with the newer board was to turn it into an all- in one video center that I could rip my wife's dvd's to while using kodi and its awesomeness to also have netflix.Things to know:-Do more research if $100 is alot to spend on a board for you :)-Get a heatsink and fan. the fan is what really makes the difference. My heatsink came from an old sound board.-No OS installed but readily available from website . Easy to follow installation instructions(google may be nessisary) to install on sd card, nvme, and (I use a) m.2 sata3. I couldn't get boot from usbdrive but didn't try to hard.-Android is lacking gapps which really limits its usability if you dont have the time or know how to figure out how to make it work with out. This keeps you from using the youtube app which my wife wants. Yes, you can just use a browser and it worked fine but no app :/-I said it worked fine, I ment everything but you couldn't move the seek bar in two different browsers.-armbian is lacking widetree support(not their fault) so I couldn't get netflix to work with kodi 18. I could use it just fine on the android image.-Debian is great but couldn't get the video to play back right.-one usb2 port shares with the usb c port. if you use one you cant use the other.-there is only one usb3 port, the bottom blue port is 2.0. I had two usb3 harddrives I had planed to hook up to this but more equipment is need for full speed on both.Pros: Great little linux server board.(havn't actually tried anything besides ssh)-Runs a usb hdd and a usb ssd and the m.2 ssd alogt with the actual board and a fan all off the single 4 amp power supply, so I can run it 24/7 without the cost of running a regular size server.-open source so the linux and android image source code is available.-cons: android image just doesn't seem polished or final. I would like to see some kind of instructions of getting play services or alternative on the machine to make it more functional.-1 usb 3-ram is not upgradeable-lcd ports are not very useful unless you fork out extra $$ for the one that works with it.-for the price of the board, case, heatsink, fan, powersupply, m.2 drive, etc it's almost better to just buy a cheap laptop or mini computer. and a cheap board for some gpio pins, if that's what your wanting to play with. this is more of a spacific use case product I think.

Alternative to Raspberry, Cortex A55/A76 processors. Runs Linux... But sometimes it is flaky.

I was impressed by assembly quality and careful packaging, and was able to make a SD card with stock Ubuntu Linux and run web browsing and even installed Visual Studio Code on it. The board is fast, but sometimes becomes sloppy or temporarily un-responsive without any reason. It also loses synchronization on my Samsung 4K TV once in a while. I did not use the board long enough to see the pattern, but I rule out thermal issues as I installed heatsinks and temperature of the processor does not exceed 45C. It is not stable with USB Ethernet adapter, but works reliably with on-board Ethernet. In my impression, Raspberry Pi 4 is more stable and reliable. That is why OrangePi5 gets only 4 stars.

First and last time ever buying a Orange Pi.

Out of the 5 OS images on their website, i can only get picture on my monitor with 1, DietPi. With the other 4 images(Orange Pi OS(ARCH), Ubuntu, Debian and Armbian) my HDMI monitor says no input, its just black.I even followed their poorly written guide on how to flash your image correct, but the same result or lack there of.But i can see im not the only one having that problem. Searching google "orange pi 5 no hdmi output" gives 12 million results.I only bought this because it was hard to get a new Raspberry Pi, but since they are in stock im gonna try to sell this and get a working SBC.

Good for education- but its ARM

Got this to add to my proxmox cluster for more VM space in my home lab. Was able to install pimox and learn a few things, but since ARM is closed source, you can only run ARM compatible systems and programs on it, there is no option for qemu kernel translatiom like for x86 architecture (didnt know any of this when i bought them)Works fine for samba shares web hosting and the like, but dont expect to be able to host a terraria or minecraft server with them, you will run into all sorts of incompatibility issues.Additionally, you wont be able to cluster these with any hypervisor, they tend to interact with DHCP strangely, and will sometimes ask for a new IP even when hard coded with a static ip both on the dhcp server and in the pi itself.
