The battery has a service time, from 6 months to about a year now.

I hope you don't do this. It shouldn't be in the dishwasher.

Using a baby bottle washer and hot soapy water to wash the container. Just rinse the top.

Q: why does the temperature display keep flashing when nothing is in bottle or lid is off bottle can it be turned off? or is mine defective?

This is normal. As long as you don't touch it, it won't display the temperature. It will monitor the temperature in the bottle in real time
