Great fun
My 11 year old son loves this. Something different to do with the kids.

Strong, suitable magnet
Chose one of these after struggling to use a friend's rectangular magnet (not naming names, but they've got orange stickers). Well, not struggling to use, but not having much luck having smooth items stick.Used this one (which was packaged amazingly) and pulled out mooring pins and windlasses, no problem. Also, I didn't want one that I knew I couldn't get off a structure, but this one still has some heft.Useful as well, for pulling yourself into moorings. Just throw it at the rail on the side of the canal, and I can pull the entire weight of my boat in. Strong enough to tow a 33 foot boat with, as long as it's flat. Although not recommended, it's a great rescue device. The cordage supplied seems sufficient for now.

So far so good
First day out , caught a carp rod !! I would say , warn people , sides of canals are often held up with metal , which I didn’t account for , so first throw in , I was stuck fast to the side , hubby had to prize it off for me , as it was so strongly attached. Then I learnt to keep your arm outstretched as you bring to the edge and lift vertically while outstretched . Apart from that , the magnet itself seems to be good enough for novices like me …6o year old female , fancied doing this for ages … 😀. Also caught two bottle tops and a piece of wire !!

Amazing for £20
I'm not a magnet fishing expert or anything but I think for £20 this pretty strong magnet and the roelpe is great for £20. You'll be able to pull out a bike if you're patient, you're struggle with a shopping trolley.

Fantastic Quality
It tell you now, this is a proper quality item. I took it to our local canal with my daughter.Apart from the flea bites and the accumulation of rubbish, we had a fab time with this.Surprised at the amount of metal debris there is in a canal. No shopping trolleys which was disappointing. Was expecting at least a murder weapon. We found a saucepan lid, some wire, half a bucket.Great item.

Turned out to be great fun and works really well!
My husband is red mad on fishing, he goes fishing an awful lot (read: way too much)! He's also spent the past year on the magnet fishing forums and fb pages, and has often showed me things that people have pulled out and commented that he wished he could see what was lurking in the various places he fishes. So I gifted him this.I realise it's not the strongest magnet available but it seemed an appropriate starting point for him; I don't think he's looking to pull out old motorbikes or unexploded devices (plus I'm a bit wary of him doing just that, considering our location in the UK).I had to laugh when I ordered it because I had visions of Amazon logistics having to prise it off the van wall, however, it arrived in some dense plastic foam moulding so I don't think that was such a great problem. (Which is also useful packaging we've kept to store the magnet in). Getting my husband to stop attaching it to various things then asking me to pull it off was annoying though. It's smaller than I thought it would be but that's at no detriment to the strong magnetic force it possesses. The very long length of thick rope would in itself probably cost a fair amount of money to buy so I think the value for money aspect of this purchase is there.I paid attention to a previous reviewers comment about it becoming untightened so my husband used locktite on it.So, the final verdict came yesterday after he trotted off fishing, taking this with him. I gather that not a lot of fish-fishing took place as he and his mate spent most of their time pulling out various lumps of mostly corroded metal. Nothing really exciting, but they thought it was great fun and now want the "next size up" and/or "more exciting places to magnet fish". What have I started here?!Final verdict from the fellas is a big thumbs up.

Strong but illegal in UK
The product itself is fantastic 10/10 but I found out that it's illegal without a license as it's dredging
