Emery: Unexpected, Book 3

all of the feels!
I swear this series gets better and better with every single book!I loved this journey. I loved the way that Em and August’s relationship grew but I also loved the way they also had their own character development and the way they grew as individuals. Also as someone who has adhd, it was so amazing to see a character who has similar quirks but also has the struggle of focusing and the struggle of hyperfixation. So many times I was just laughing because I could 110% relate to how Em’s brain was working!

Quirky and Cute
Emery. Emery. Emery. Emery!!!! Gah. He was such a fun character. I loved his quirks and his obsession with candy. Makes me want to have a sucker. This book was a little of the taboo nature. Emery and August are stepbrothers who are getting it on, but this trope doesn’t even phase me honestly. I’ve read way worse before. I enjoyed reading about these two. I liked how their little relationship started. Getting stranded in the snowy wilderness? Having to snuggle to stay warm? Yessssssss. While I said I love Emery, sometimes I felt like he was a little too over the top. Like the author wanted a quirky character and didn’t know when to stop. I still loved the man, but I did roll my eyes a lot.August was very sweet to Emery, and I loved him for it. Em had a horrible past, and he needed something good in his life. All that being said, I wanted to punch August a little. Mostly when it came to telling his mother. He just didn’t want to disappoint his mother, but who freaking cares. Lex said it perfectly, “Parents were made so we can disappoint them.” Preach. But really, I don’t care much for the dirty little secret thing. Makes me angry. :(I actually wanted more sex in this. Crazy I know. This author writes good sex, but I didn’t feel like there was a lot in this book. I feel like there was more sex in the beginning when they were on vacation, but not much after that. They obviously still went to town on each other, but the details just weren’t there. It was just statements like, “He then railed me.” And I was like oh okay that’s it? Idk. The sex that was there was good, but I wanted some more.I enjoyed this read. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but I like how the author includes 2 epilogues in her book. One is a short time after the book ends, and the second is quite a while after the book ends. That is different than I have read before, but I wish a lot of books had that. Anyway please read about my sweet pea Emery! Peace, love, and candy. xoxoxoxoxo

needs a longer list of trigger warnings
It is another good story by this author. I love the stream of consciousness from her ADHD character. Loads of fun, but some of the characters have bad back stories. I appreciate that people with a rough start deserve a HEA, but they also deserve trigger warnings. In addition to prior sexual abuse of a child, there is other non sexual physical abuse and mental abuse of a child, drug use, death by overdose, and other PTSD inducing situations. Everything is mentioned as background not in the story or in detail.

great story
This series has been nothing but achingly adorable with interspersed chaos. I don’t normally like step brother stuff, or stalker stuff in the case of the book before this one, but I loved both of these. She does achingly sweet very well. With this one the pacing seemed a little off. There were parts where I feel the author rushed to get to (it has the vibe that she was just that excited to write it, though). Unfortunately it gave me a bit of whiplash when reading but it was still ver very good! Can’t wait for the next!

A Slight Detour
Apparently I missed this book's release. Oops. I originally picked it up a couple days ago when I got excited seeing it on my kindle. Unfortunately, I wasn't in the right mood to read it. (Hello, fellow mood readers. *inserts the 'how do you do' gif* ) And the random 'crazy' jokes were a bit too much. But, because, similar to Emery, I have adhd and not much self control, I couldn't stop thinking about it and picked it up again because I love this series so much. And yeah, though, it was still slow for me to get into, Cora Rose's signature humor and banter and their opposites attract superpower returned. Better later than never or something like that. Sem and Magnus make plenty of cameos. We get a new hint of a future story. I missed the van Beek brothers together so I hope there's plenty more of them in that future. At the end the author mentions they orginally planned to take this story a darker route. I kind of wish they would have gone with it. Those are the vibes I got from the hints previously in Sem's story. Anyway, Emery is pure sunshine in the form of a golden retriever that I relate to on a deeper level than I care to admit. Also, I can't help that I'm a sucker (lol candy pun) for a stepbrother romance. I still don't like Lex. He can go on his stupid cruise and never come back.Original review:I'm dnfing this for now. I don't usually write reviews for dnfs but I really loved Whit and Sem and don't want to completely give up on the series. Maybe it's my reading slump or my mood but this book just isn't doing it for me. And I've read a few random off-handed 'crazy' jokes that I'm annoyed and have had enough.I do appreciate the adhd rep because same.

August and his Em
Emery is so unique, I feel for him on paragraph one. He could be dark and heavy based on his experiences, but he is funny in such special way that I agree with August it would be impossible not to fall for him.August is another story. He is simply perfect, he is put together, he is protective and so balanced, he needs Em in his life to wreck him a little.Very special book, written with care and respect.I would definitely recommend.

This book was *chefs kiss*
How could you not fall in love with Emery?!This was beautifully written and Cora out did herself. This is definitely one of my favourites. The story captures you from the first pages and the trauma and other issues handled in the book and done amazingly, helping you see and understand what the characters are experiencing.Cannot wait for more in the series and to get even snippets of Emery ♥️

Sweet but intense
Oof Emery is a lot. Like a LOT but it gets there in the end. Very high angst and very liberal use of the whole 'miscommunication leading to breakup' scenario. But a lot of very tender sweet moments and some very steamy sexy ones as well

Fantastic
This book was amazing. I loved the MCs so much. I just wanted to hug Emery forever. Another amazing Cora Rose book. Her books have everything, laughter, a little bit of angst, heat, so much heat and always the most beautiful love stories. Can’t wait to read the next book.
