Fragments of Lichtenberg (French Literature)

One of the smartest and most enjoyable novels I've read in years. It raises difficult questions - about the fate of reason; about perception vs.system, the deceptiveness of vs. the need for story - but it does so with great humor and incomparable narrative elan. The figure of Lichtenberg himself shines through as a timely model of Enlightenment and humanism. I read this immediately after Senges's mordant Great Refutation, and I hope more of his books will be translated soon.

A work of unalloyed brilliance. Crackling with wit and a madcap brand of scholarship.Impossible to recommend too highly.
