Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night)

Scenes from real life.
A welcome return to the acoustic sound that made this artist great.I enjoyed "An Other Cup" for its vibrance and sincerity. This album is perhaps a little more thoughtful and contemplative, but each song still carries a message, without falling into the trap of becoming self indulgent.Yusuf has the gift of communication with his audience and can pull off songs such as "Be What You Must" with a children's choir without being twee. The opening track, "Welcome Home" sets the scene for the title theme, and Yusuf takes the listener on his musical journey with both depth and simplicity. This album is beautifully crafted and produced, and Yusuf gives food for thought to all of us with his observations on real life.I particularly liked the subtle use of brass in "Every Time I Dream", the tuba in particular is haunting underpining the accompaniment harmony."The Rain" carries is a particularly powerful message about greed in the world.Whilst this is undoubtedly music for grown-ups, my 8 year old (Discerning soul that he is !) already loves "Thinking 'Bout You" and the hymn like chorus of "Be what you Must" a recommendation if ever there was of the way Yusuf's music can touch us all.

Not everybody's cup of tea but I liked it
Yusuf Islam aka Cat Stevens is on excellent form, with melodic, well written material. There's no mistaking a familiar & highly accomplished Cat Stevens sound from the opening bars. The religious overtones of his lyrics may put some off, but they are universal. That aside, I thought it a very worthwhile addition to my collection. He is one of life's good guys.

Back on Good Form
This is Cat Stevens or Yusuf at his best again. After hearing the single on Radio 2, I knew that I had to buy this album; and I was not disappointed. The lyrics are oustanding and sung with emotion. A "must buy" for anybody who has been a fan since the 60's. A great album.

Good as he was 30 years ago!
Yusuf / Cat Stevens may have a grey hair now but his voice and guitar are young as ever. This album is a proof that excellent musicians and real talents can bring us good music over decades... To test this I played it to my much younger friends and they were delighted! Well balanced album to listen whatever mood you are in. Cat Stevens may have had his personal reasons for silence, but I am glad he came back out loud.

Not as good as old solid gold 'Cat Stevens' but an interesting ...
The 'Cat' is older and sounds wiser. Not as good as old solid gold 'Cat Stevens' but an interesting collection all the same. Listen to the songs several times and then you will slowly recover a little sprinkle of magic in there.

Cat Stevens 20 years on
Being a great fan of Cat Stevens and slowly converting my vinal to CD I bought along with Tea for the Tillerman to see how he had changed. The vouce and sentiment hadn't changed and I think the lyrics are even better.
