Fiskars Solid Garden Spade

Great purchase. Makes me look hardworking and stylish sporting it. Wish my husband could see me in full form doing all the gardening, bugger always complained I did no work, but I'll have to dig deeper to get him out.

Guys, this is it. The best shovel on the market. I bought this for some gardening work in our new garden, and I wanted to plant and clean the soil thoroughly before sowing and this one helped me the most. I had the bad surprise (but the best reason for this review) to find some very deep large tree roots hidden in the soil, and this one helped me take them out, every single one. When it can't take the weight it slightly bends so you know you can't lift that, but it doesn't break. Very sturdy product, the connections are perfect. I highly recommend this and I will buy other gardening products from this brand. Thank you

As you’d expect from Fiskars, here is another well designed bit of quality kit from this long established Finnish outfit.I chose the pointed blade because when digging it slices cleanly through small roots and slides around hidden stones. I’ve read comments regarding the length of this spade but from the pics, the proportions are just right for the average person. They don’t just randomly chose a length, a bit of research goes into it. Actually, the handle is removable so I reckon any reasonable DIY person could remove it to shorten the shaft (check warranty first though if it’s new)! The spade may seem a bit long when held upright but remember that once you’re a foot or so into the ground it certainly won’t be! The blade itself is sturdy and smooth, and as an engineer I really love the way the blade is so neatly and strongly fillet welded to the handle. All in all....faultless.

Wow, this is perfect, I bought it as my husband had a bad back and we needed a metre deep hole (not for him may I add hahahaha!!!) anyway his shovel was huge and heavy so I researched the feedback and digging deep holes etc and came to the conclusion this was the best shovel available for the price and excellence. I was not disappointed, it cuts through the hard soil really really well and I have gone on to purchase other products of this brand as I was so impressed. Infact since my hubbys recovery it seems I may have lost this to the males in the family and his old heavy rubbish has now retired for good. I really recommend this shovel for all difficult jobs to not overly strain you. Brilliant. And am very happy that I have now created a waste tank in my dogs garden so no more stinking poops!!!! :)

It’s a bloody good ground breaking and digging spade, however its not well suited to stony ground as the pointed tip can suddenly veer off as you hit one.The spade is very long and ideal for my 6’2” frame, although it doesn’t weight much at all given its massive strength. I weigh 13st and can jump on the handle for leverage with confidence.If you want an accurate digging tool, you would be far better off with a flatter blade, and for material shifting a shovel would be better, however that’s not to say you can’t use this for those applications at all

This is the sort of spade you see on The Walking Dead where the characters effortlessly dig a deep hole for burying a corpse, but of a type that most garden centres don't carry. And it works - it digs much better through difficult soils than a flat-edged spade, it is both lightweight and strong. It probably suits a taller person given the length, in the small but nonzero chance that you find yourself over-run by zombies then the long reach and sharp edge could well be useful for hand-to-hand combat.

I was expecting quite a light weight spade for the price. The fact that it had a plastic handle did not impress me. I need not have worried. This is a very solid tool with a robust handle that should not break with heavy usage. This is the type of spade that would be very useful for most gardeners. So far I've used it for stripping away a layer of grass and as a shovel for spreading manure. It penetrates the ground much more easily than the conventional spade. It will not replace the straight edged spade where a line needs to be formed but I think I will be using this new spade the most.

This spade is excellent. I had a flat spade, which wasn’t great for my side garden. It couldn’t cope with keep hitting stones and broke after a few weeks. I’d been looking round for something more hardy and noticed my downstairs neighbour using a pointed spade which seemed to do a better job of finding the stones so they could be discarded. However, his spade broke after a month, so I wasn’t hopeful of finding anything that would do the job without breaking.I was wrong, this Fiskars pointed spade has made light of work of all the stones and has even dug out the roots of two trees I had cut down. The side garden is now virtually stone free. I’m going to give it another dig over before I start looking for plants and shrubs, but I’m happy with the way it looks, even without any colour at the moment.This spade also made light work of ‘edging’ my back lawn. I’m really impressed and would recommend this to anyone.
