Nice little 6hr hand hotter! Very pleased with it, lasts over 13 hours
After spending a lot of time researching hand warmers, I went for the 6 hour/12 hour Whitby hand warmer, which then fell apart after 5 weeks use... it literally pulled apart as I took the lid off.Knowing now that I only really need around 6 hours or so of warmth I then went for the Zippo 6 hour hand warmer.Arrived quickly, obviously smaller than the 12 hour Zippo/Whitby and bigger than my Zippo lighter (in photos for size comparison). The 12 hour Zippo and the Whitby are identical apart from the filling ports and cut outs in the lid.The thing I like about the 6 hour version is it has a flat base to stand it up after filling. It needs to be stood up for a few minutes before lighting. With the 12 hour you have to prop it up as it has a curved base.Easy to fill, the burner head is an exact fit on a Whitby and vice-versa, yet the position of the catalyst material inside the burner head is different, I find it easier to light the Whitby burner head as it's curved around the top of it, rather than laying flat inside the base of the Zippo burner head which is hard to get a Zippo lighter flame on it.After using it I find it gives more heat using the Whitby burner head than when using the standard Zippo burner head.First fill using the Zippo burner head gave exactly 6 hours and 5 minutes burn time, nice amount of constant warmth.Second fill but using the Whitby burner head gave 7 hours 45 minutes burn time and what seems like more warmth.Third fill using the Whitby burner head on it gave 11 hours and 10 minutes burn time.Absolutely brilliant.Being smaller than the 12 hour version it's easier to slip into gloves, or hold in your hand, and doesn't fill up a pocket, but being smaller it doesn't heat your entire pocket area compared to the larger 12 hour version, but it can leave a red mark on your skin if you have it for a length of time in a tight trouser pocket.Would I buy it again? Yes definitely, I wish I'd done that before wasting money on the Whitby hand warmer!Edited after 5 weeks use -Been using this daily, one thing that really bugs me is the Zippo catalyst/burner head...On a dog walk I usually have it in a trouser pocket and it's warm, but if I move it up to my jacket pocket and put my hand inside it, or I hold it in my hand outside of my pocket, then it goes cold after a while and goes out.I tried getting over this for days, carrying a lighter around with me and relighting it and it takes ages to get going again in the cold weather, sometimes not at all while I am outside. There is no way to keep it going outside of the pocket in cold weather, especially if it's windy. But with the Whitby burner head fitted there is zero problems, it's hotter, can be carried in my hand outside or inside my jacket pocket and it stays toasty hot. With the Whitby burner head fitted I have had just over 13 hours out of it so far. This could be due to the way I extinguish it though -I never let it burn out until it's cold, when I no longer need it I remove it from the felt bag and place it inside an old small rectangular metal sweet tin, close the lid to starve it of oxygen and place upright on the metal draining board. It goes cold in a few minutes. It stays in the airtight tin until next morning when it is filled up and lit. I imagine that there is still an amount of unused Zippo lighter fuel inside from the day before which increases the burn time the following day?Buy this 6hr Zippo and dump the Zippo burner head and buy a Whitby burner head for it, you won't regret it.

Not always 6 hours, but getting better
Like a few others, I've found it fiddly to fill and light - but it's easier after a few times. Just the right temperature to carry in my hand or pocket on a cold day. Biggest problem is that, so far, it doesn't stay warm for anything like 6 hours. 2-3 is the best at the moment. It might "burn in" after a few more uses (as suggested elsewhere) but, since the "catalyst" is slowly consumed (in quotes because a true catalyst should not wear out, other than by surface contamination), I'm not overly impressed.I was looking for something that didn't use battery power (like almost everything else nowadays) and that "old tech" would be a nice change. However, if this doesn't get nearer 6 hours soon...Update: after writing the above, it lasted over 7 hours on the next use. Can’t really explain it, unless it’s going out early through lack of oxygen and the extra life comes from the extra fuel left over. I did think it was beginning to cool and opened the bag to check, put it down and, a few minutes later, found it nice and warm again. My one dislike is needing to use the plastic filler - I realise the need to measure out fuel but it’s easily lost and an extra thing to carry. I can’t think of a better way, beyond guessing with experience :(. I’ve got the spare fuel tank with one fill (10ml I understand) but it’s not an easy pour as the air hole is quite small and the fuel just drips out.

Stays hot much longer than 6 hours
The first time I lit it, it stayed warm for around 4.5 hours. Second time 8 hours. Third time, I’m almost at 12 hours! Fits nicely in my hand and is lovely to have in my pocket or slip into my glove. Definitely recommend if you struggle with cold hands and need something to stay warm for hours and hours while you’re out.

Works well
Great little item. Easy to use. The fuel container is great. It’s a bit smaller than anticipated though but all in all a good buy.

Decent
Decent, but hard to light, and get too hot without the cover but not hot enough with the cover. All around too much faff with filling and lighting, especially if you want one in each pocket. Wish I’d just bought the electric ones (from competitors)

Toasty warm
I bought this as I do a lot if walks year round and didn't fancy a new fangled electronic one. It's a brilliant piece of kit. Pretty simple to operate. It did go out the first time I took it out when it was really cold, but I think this was because I took it out the bag and the cold shock stopped the fumes evaporating.Since then I have had no trouble. You need to warm the body of it in your hands and light the burner by just showing it the tip of the flame. youll know it's lit when it glows and you can feel when its emitting heat. Let it heat up before putting it into it's bag. You need to fiddle with the bag to regulate the amount if oxygen but it's no hassle and quite instinctive-it burns hotter if more oxygen gets to it. I lit this at 6 this morning and its still nice and hot now at nearly 4pm so obviously is good for more than the claimed 6 hrs. Great productUPDATE the zippo burner material was knackered after about 5 uses. I replaced it with platinum catylyst pad for a couple of quid, which is much easier to light and burns better and hotter, would recommend as an upgrade

Really impressed
Lights easily, puts out good heat, and feels better built than my 12hr Peacock hand warmer.
