Simply The Best Professional Shotgun Mic On A Budget
After many issues with lapel/shirt mics failing due to their delicate size i took the plung with a shotgun mic and it's safe to say i will never be going back. The quality is extremely professional and due to the directional nature of the mic as long as it's close and pointed towards your speaking subject, it blocks out almost all background noise. If you want professional results on a budget then this is the perfect microphone for boom pole interviews both in inside and outside environments. The 120 hour battery, usb charging and 10 year guarantee is the best performance i've ever seen on a mic. The days of worrying about breaking micrphones or the battery running out on jobs are gone, now i can just focus on the job in hand without worry. True pro performance.

Well worth cosidering.
The Rode NTG3 is a little different from the usual shotgun mics. The noise level is extremely low, due to the RF design. The directivity pattern is a little wider than mics like the Sennheiser 816. This can be an advantage, or a disadvantage, depending on your application.Compared to most shotgun mics, the low frequency extension is far greater You will need to use a high pass filter for most dialogue or exterior recording. Also missing is the strong high frequency boost, often found in similar microphones The NTG3 makes a useful spot mic for music recording.Overall, the sound is natural and extended, lacking the dry pinched effect sometimes associated with shotgun mics. For outdoor use, the supplied foam windshield is inadequate. Budget for a full basket windshield in this case. You might get away with a WS7 furry on calmer days.I would always recommend personal auditioning, rather than relying on reviews if possible.

Exactly what it needs to be
You have to admire R0de. They found a pocket slightly below Sennheiser, and provided exceptional value in that bracket. The NTG4+ is no different. Is it quite as good as the top of the range? no. But it's also half the price, and definitely better than half the quality. Providing a solid midrange, but losing a tiny bit of detail in the highs is for my money perfectly acceptable, as your audience will never tell. For videography, field recordings, music sessions etc it's perfect. The rechargable battery giving fantastic versatility that means you don't need to be tied to phantom power all the time.

Great Mic
So upgrading my items and decided I needed a shotgun MicrophoneI like the look of this mic and RODE is a great companyI've used it a few times I like the features with pad and low cut on the MicrophoneIts a clear microphone and performs really well, at times it might have a little to high end and not enough low end however the sound has a great clarity to it and it works for me. The recording I've had with it and sent on have had no issues so over all its a great microphone, only 4 stars as clearly there is more expensive microphones out there with better reviews and quality but for me and depends how you look at this but for someone with a low-mid end budget its a great mic and will cover all your needs and might be the only microphone youll ever want or need. Comes with a nice litte array of goodies, nice Rode case whch is helpful, nice foam, wish it came with a dead cat but had to buy one seperate I bet some will come in a deal package if you look around but a great Microphone to last the time. Glad to have bought it

This shotgun microphone is very good. I don't think that for the money you can buy something better. 150 hours of phantom power thanks to a small internal battery (charging time about 2 hours) is a very nice thing. Quality of sound - very good. Yes, there are better shotgun mics (like Rode NTG-3 or Sennheiser shotgun mics, for instance) but they are much more expensive. The shotgun microphone is definitely worth the money, unless you prefer to spend less, because you like much noise in recorded sound.

Fantastic Microphone
Purchased this microphone to record some audio for a video project. My favourite feature has to be the built in battery plugs straight into my zoom h5 and I don't need to worry about phantom power and makes my zoom batteries last longer. As will all microphones if you are attaching it to a boom pole as I have done handling noice gets transferred to the microphone if you do not use a a shock. With a shock mount sounds perfect. And 10 year rode warranty can't go wrong.

Easily the best microphone I have ever used.
Others have posted in depth technical reviews of this mic (which helped me in deciding to buy it) so I'll leave the details to them. But I will say that look no further if you want quality above that of a NTG2 that will work without phantom power if required. The flexibility the internal battery provides is a godsend, and why I ultimately chose the NTG4 over the NTG2. On paper this sits in-between the NTG2 and 3 but I cannot find fault with the NTG4, and I will probably never push it to it's limits to find any. All I can do is add my voice to the choir of Rode lovers, as I cannot recommend this microphone highly enough!

Decent
I like the sound this thing recordsThe is some body and bass to it....I am rather pleased with the quality.I think anything cheaper would have been useless...I'm talking about NTG4... that one wouldn't cut it for meThis one does.

The perfect voiceover mic?
Bought this mic "Used/Good" fulfilled by Amazon in the wild hopes that I could FINALLY find a good voiceover mic... And I'm in love.First, the good: this mic has hardly any self noise, and in the booth I can get voice to a perfect -23LUFS with a noise floor below -54db with the mic 6-8" off my mouth. If you angle it 45° off axis and position it just slightly above, I haven't had huge issues with breath noises, plosives, or anything else, which means I don't need the (excellent) windscreen. I have not yet tried the I closed dead cat but suspect it will work as advertised. The NTG 5 has got plenty of low end for voiceover work, a nice clear and detailed top end without a whole lot of sibilance (I have a fairly sibilant voice AND gap teeth, and am aurally sensitive to sibilance, which isn't fun, but this mic manages it well). It needs just a touch of EQ to sound its best, at least on my voice, but I also tend toward muddiness, so I can't blame the mic there.Bright enough without sounding brittle, harsh or sibilant. Rich enough without adding too much muddiness (unless you get under 4" and hit the proximity effect). Easy to listen to for long periods. Barely even needs EQ. In short, I'm in love! The cons (and this is nitpicky AF) - I wish the pistol grip mount A, came pre-assembled (I immediately lost the miniscule screwdriver included with the mic), and B, that it came in 5/8 diameter instead of 3/8 (and included the usual adapter). I get that it's a "location mic" and that 3/8 is the default for boom poles, but it's more common to adapt up to 5/8 than down to 3/8, if that makes sense. I'd also be happy if they included a 5/8F-3/8M adapter, but ordering one shouldn't be difficult, just a temporary mild annoyance.I haven't tested it outdoors or in an untreated room, but I suspect it'll do well for live recording and outdoor applications.I'll know in another month or two of rode testing if it's the PERFECT voiceover mic, but I shure can't fault the way it sounds in the booth!

RØDE microphones score 10 / 10 again!
Excellent, if short, shotgun microphone by those great Australians. Nicely made with an excellent starter kit containing sensibly chosen and well-sourced parts for microphone holding and use. The kit idea seems very juvenile perhaps, but in fact this package of items is well chosen and the parts seem very well made - not a junior kit. Will be paying attention to RØDE again!

Great for dialogue capture
Best used with a windscreen with high boost and pad enabled.

NOT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER!!!I had an issue with this mic and I contacted the seller and all they said was "contact the manufacturer". Well, when I called the RODE manufacturer, they said that Top Sports is NOT an authorized dealer and there is NO WARRANTY!!!Make sure you buy from an authorized dealer.
