gimmick or not. every little bit helps
This tub filter is not the only thing that is needed to keep the water clean. I clean my tub once a month. This tub filter simply passes water through mineral particles. Having this however doesn't exclude the need for chlorine if used for a pool. If all other uses, chlorine is not necessary.I always shower before using tub. However, even after showering, the tub has residue here and there especially when I use bathbomb. As far as I can tell, there is no much difference between using this filter vs not using this filter.

Sufficient replacement for the name brand
Hey, I am not sure like the rest of the Spa community if these little "mineral" cartridges actually save you from any additional chlorine addition, but hey, I am sure the Sundance people know exactly what you need to enjoy your hot tub.... yeah right! I mean I have the UV light and this mineral cartridge running all the time, so my water should be perfect without a boat load of extra chemicals.... problem is that I have not seen reduction in my chemical use even when the light and these mineral cartridges are well beyond their life expectancies. Sorry for the rant, so on to the actual review... I cracked open another knock off replacement mineral cartridge and compared the contents to this product, there is certainly a difference in content, with the amount of metal shot, which I assume is for weight purposes and not sanitization between the two, with More in this product (minus 1 star). On both cartridges, nothing is magnetic as confirmed from a rare earth type. I am going out on a limb and going to say that this brand has less sanitizing power than the other brand that I am replacing (yellow case). But then again, I think the spa manufacture is selling this like snake oil, as I have not seen any reduction in chlorine use over the years... best thing to do is shower before getting into your tub and change the water at least every 4 months under normal use.
