Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone: A Novel

Slow to start, but a good ending
This book has a lot of good- It does feel very knives out, It's not the darkest or scariest thriller, and it had an interesting narrator. Overall I enjoyed this bookThe issues I had are as follows; This book was confusing - maybe this was just a problem specific to me but some of the details and the way it was written made this hard to follow at times. The characters were challenging to keep track of, partly because there were so many, and partly because so many weren't of great importance. It was slow to start, I wasn't fully absorbed and committed until around the halfway point.Like I said at the beginning, the book was good overall, and I may read the next book that this author puts out.

I loved this!
This was definitely a unique, funny and suspenseful book! I actually laughed out loud so many times yet I also was enthralled by the plot! I need to find out if this is a true story, but the way it's written. The narrative of this book is so different and hilarious! Definitely a good change in the genres of books I've been reading! I need more from this author!

This was different
The author talks to the reader, a lot, and it is mostly through this that we learn about each character and each death that occurs. His sense of humor adds some salt to the story as well.Set in a resort where a snowstorm has trapped them all during a family reunion this is like a giant locked room mystery. I thought it mostly resembled a police procedural when that question came up in the book club meeting. Talking to all the suspects, gathering information and piecing together the who, what, and why. We're all included in that by the author's asides. I felt that it was too wordy at times and this slowed the pace but it was still interesting. There's a lot going on and the story is very convoluted and I did guess who did it but not the whole story. The main killer, you might say, is not revealed until the end, and the rules for a mystery which are at the beginning of the book are mostly followed.

The writing! Yes!
At first, I did not particularly like the way Benjamin Stevenson wrote this book. Then I was so involved in the story that he was telling me that I completely forgot that I did not like his writing in thought between lines of the story. It totally works! Great story, all the suspense, and a true story? Maybe? Everyone in Ern's family has killed someone. The Cunninghams are all together at a ski resort awaiting the reunion with Michael, Ern's brother, who is being released from prison. The whole family is there, step-family and exes included. Then a body is found and from there more bodies until the dramatic conclusion with such a twist you will not ser it coming. Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone was such a fun read!

Page-turning murder mystery
“Knives Out and Clue meet Agatha Christie”Excellent murder mystery/whodunit that kept me guessing right up til the end.The prologue sets up the author’s rules and promises right from the jump, and makes for a hilarious narration style.I wish I could give this more than 5 stars.

not what I was expecting, lots of humor/sarcasm
This book is not your typical mystery as the family of characters meet for reunion. The author has a lot of humor and sarcasm mixed into the story which makes this book a fun little romp versus a tense or suspenseful mystery waiting for its end. Some of the people my book club thought everything wrapped up so quickly, but isn’t that typical for mystery? Plus there was a little epilogue at the end that made everything for the author/main character in my opinion end up the way it should be at the end.

Fantastic
This is one of the best written, engaging murder mystery I've read in a long time. I'm a huge Christie fan and mystery reader and enjoy most of them, but this really stood out as a fun read

Unusual book with unique style
This is a very unusual book written in a unique style. The author writes in first person and speaks directly to the reader, like breaking the fourth wall in the theater or movies. It takes a bit of getting used to. Also, there are a lot of characters who are tricky to keep track of. The action takes place at a remote ski resort during a major snowstorm. People are getting murdered right and left, and the storyteller is trying to figure out who in his family is guilty. In the author's Acknowledgments he wrote "There are so many books out there and you chose mine, and that's truly special. I hope you had fun." I did, and I appreciate his kind words.

A great read!
This book was so well plotted as well as containing a fabulous set of characters. It was a genuine whodunnit, but the author manages to include so much black humour - I found myself chuckling at the observations of the main protagonist, Ernest. The story is narrated by him , and we are introduced to each of his family in every other chapter, while the alternate chapters move the story along. I haven't enjoyed a book as much in ages and would highly recommend it.

light-hearted, entertaining read
It is a fun read, nothing too sophisticated, easy bed-time literature with an engaging storyline and catchy narrative.

An unusual format
Interesting choice for the narrator to talk to the reader but I have to admit I got bored half way through. Think 'S inspector fall's in a mountain resort. Entertaining nonetheless.
