Good fire rope but.
When i opened the fire rope i noticed some tape about a 1/4 of the way down its length. When i took the tape off the rope came apart so it seems they cut the fire rope too short then taped an extra piece on.

Excellent quality British made
When my original door rope wore out, it concerned me that I might unintentionally replace it with an inferior product. A worn rope may allow more oxygen into the stove and cause over fuelling.I believe this kit is as good as what was installed at the factory. The adhesive performed well and and there's plenty of it. I can feel the door shuts tightly again requiring more pressure, I know it's sealing properly.Top fitting tips:1. Remove the door from the stove, they often just lift off the hinges but otherwise there may be a small securing screw. Lay it down on old news paper ready for prepping.2. Take a photo of the rope lay out to match later on. The rope ends usually join together at the bottom of the door.3. Remove the rope and clean the groove of old glue with with a wire brush. I used a brass spark plug cleaning brush. A final wipe down with alcohol or acetone for good adhesion. It's also a good time to give the door a thorough clean getting into areas that are usually hard to get to.4. Measure the old and new rope to make sure they're the same. I used calipers, remember the old seal would have been squashed slightly and may measure smaller.5. Practice laying the rope in the groove, it's important not to stretch the rope. Wrap the fire tape around where you need to cut and cut in the middle of the tape with sharp scissors. This will stop the ends of the rope untangling and freying. It will also ensure the ends butt up again each other. Avoid wrapping the tape around too tightly it may squash the ends too much and prevent a good seal.6. Squeeze the adhesive into the groove then fit the rope.Lay the rope in gently pressing it down and where the two ends meet put a piece of adhesive tape over to seal the join.7. I've read different advice on glue trying times so I just left mine over night before refitting the door.Bonus tips:1. When I refitted the door I cleaned up the hinges with fine fine wire wool and greased them up with high temperature copper grease. This can be found at an automotive store easily as regular grease would just burn off. The door no longer squeaks when opening and closing.2. I noticed an area of my old door rope was more worn than others. I felt for burs or sharp egdes on the stove where the rope presses against it and then smoothed them out with 800 grit sand paper.3. When the stove isn't in use for long periods of time leave the door open slightly. This will take pressure of the rope seal and prevent compression.Enjoy your nice and efficient wood burning stove.

Sturdy but too soft
I first purchased this product to replace the door gaskets in my wood stove renovation project. I applied it with adhesive and noticed that the thickness of the product had decreased a lot at the end of the application. Since it is not wrapped very tightly and rigidly as a rope wrap, it stretches a lot, and with the adhesive liquid, its width has become much smaller and its volume has indirectly decreased. If you have a lot of space between the stove and the cover, I recommend you to choose thicker models. Otherwise, it is a very durable and useful product.
