quality at a price
Have several Starrett squares. Lots of cheaper ones are not actually square. This is a quality tool priced accordingly.

Finally an adjustable square that is square
The box the adjustable square comes in isn’t great and it’s loose so not protected. Maybe that’s Starrett’s confidence in their build quality. First thing I did is check if it’s square or not - spot on as you would expect for the money. I have purchased numerous cheaper squares from other manufacturers and none of them have been square so returned them all. You can feel the quality difference as soon as you pick it up. It is heavy in comparison to all the others but it’s not a problem. Not sure whether it could rust over time so I oiled it with my rag in a can and I do it again after each day of use to make sure. It’s winter, it’s cold, I have the heater on so it’s cold then warm then cold and condensation in the shed but no rust or discolouration at all.The rule moves smoothly as you adjust it. My only concern was the edges of the shoulder and stock being quite sharp as, using the square to Mark timber at a set distance and just run a pencil along with the end of the rule e.g. to Mark 1” in along the length of the wood, I thought being sharp it would catch and cause problems but so far this has not been the case. As with all squares don’t drop them as this could make them go out of square. It’s sturdy so might be ok but I won’t chance it. Overall it’s the best square I have owned and I think it will last a lifetime.

Good square shame it rusts to bits in the slightest bit drizzle
Added a photo off it next to my bahco150 which I’ve had for months only upgraded to the starret as both my bahcos 150+300 lost their square and are off every so slightly. Deceived for the price this would be perfect for me it’s a great square just feels quality in the hands but not made for outside you can see it rusting in front off your eyes when a rain drop touches it

Perfect
Perfect 90 degrees, does rust easily though, so just use a cloth with WD-40 and wipe it down.
